We stayed here in May 2008 for 68 EUR/night for 2 people. We got a double bed, which was actually two twins pushed together. We booked the "Quiet Location" room, which had a balcony facing a concrete wall. But it was indeed quiet. The hotel itself was basic and clean. The shower stall was very small with a shower curtain that didn't really contain the water. The bathroom floor always got wet. The elevator is tiny. It was large enough to fit 2 people with 2 suitcases and that was about it! Four people in there was a squeeze. The room was relatively small, but I guess this is standard in European countries.

Our stay included a buffet breakfast, which consisted of some basic cold cuts, cheeses, fruits, tea, coffee, yogurt, and a few other things. It was actually quite substantial and good! There is free wi-fi access in the rooms, as well as a complimentary public computer for internet usage right next to the reception desk.

The hotel was in the Omonia area of Athens, which was about a 15 min or so walk to the Acropolis. We didn't even have to take the subway (we only stayed in Athens for a couple of nights). The area itself wasn't bad and we never felt threatened. It wasn't a glitzy area, but it felt like you were in Greece.

Overall, we felt this was a good price for what we got - location, internet access, service, and breakfast. I would certainly recommend this hotel for budget-minded travelers!

I have some photos of the hotel room and of Athens at:

The staff was exceptional. Service was good. Convenient location -- very centrally located in Athens. I would stay there again if I visit Athens.

“Budget Stop”

Best Western Hotel Zinon

Jun 18, 2008

Chosen as a budget choice after reading the Tripadvisor reviews, paid 80Euros/night which is reasonable for Athens. Took the metro from the airport, which was good value, clean and easy to use. The Omonia stop is within 5 minutes walk from the Metro, it was tricky at night to find the hotel, as it doesn't stand out from the surrounding streets until you're virtually outside it, but use your map! I'd asked for a city view room, but it was obvious there would not be much of a view, so we asked for a 'quiet room'. This was quiet as the view was an enclosed courtyard at the back, but I didn't stay there to sit and admire the view. The reception staff were helpful and mentioned the internet which we didn't use. The breakfast buffet was OK, but if you stay for more than 2 days you might find it monotonous. The lifts were small, about 2 person, but it saves sharing a lift! The shower was small , almost didn't find it behind toilet door, but bathroom ok. The beds were fine, a sofa and reasonable set of wardrobes with a large screen TV ( mainly greek TV ). The only downside was the relatively blandness of the decor, but we mainly used the room for sleeping and then were out sightseeing. Some of our colonial cousins have worried about the area, I saw no ladies of the night, however, the newstand by the metro had some fairly explicit mags on display. The street lighting is darker than most european capitals and lots of small groups of people hang out everywhere, but we didn't feel concerned. We had a few drinks out at the local bars that were open to midnight in the week, and plenty of small shops with drinks and snacks available at good prices. We were able to leave our rucksacks there on the last day, however, the luggage room is not locked and anyone can go into the room, so take sensible precautions.
Overall a good budget choice in a good location, but not a luxury hotel by any means.

We used the hotel to attend a conference so cannot comment on accessibility to tourist attractions, but it is central, and 5 mins walk from the Metro station. Hotel was extremely good value at about £50 per night. Clean, recently refurbished and with helpful staff, the only negative was mediocre breakfast....I prefer to breakfast out, so it didn't bother me. The area is not dodgy at all, just populated by locals. Other reviewers are mistaking the local custom of hanging in groups on street corners chatting, as somehow 'dodgy' behaviour. It isn't. This is just real people in a real part of town. Be as street-smart as you would anywhere else in the world...

“Pleasant Stay”

Best Western Hotel Zinon

Jun 10, 2008

Great location. Very close to the metro(Omonia Station) and very close to the Acropolis, Agora, Plaka, Hadrians Arch, National Archaeological Museum all by metro or walking. Also some decent and affordable restaurants in the area.

The rooms were a good size, showers were very small, but everything was very clean. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Checking in and out took seconds. The breakfast is good - cereal, boiled eggs, toast, jam, fruit, deli meat, buns. There is also free internet available for the use of guests. A stand is at the front providing various maps of Athens and the metro.

The only complaint I really have is that the pillows weren't very comfortable. I'd recommend bringing your own. It is not a fancy hotel by any means, but it is clean, well kept up, great location for sight seeing, friendly staff.
