This hotel is indeed right next to the Archaeological Museum. Which is fine for getting to... the Archaeological Museum (and even then down a rather unpleasant street), but not much else. It's not particularly close to any metro station either. To get anywhere you have to walk down some highly run-down, rubbish-strewn streets.

The room was a reasonable size with acceptable work desk, and had decent air conditioning. The bathroom looked elegant with marble, but was sadly deficient in a number of ways - a tiny shower corner (with a shower curtain that didn't fit), and little niggles like nowhere to put soap was a bit of a disappointment. Beds were not awful, but hardly great - especially the rock-hard pillows.

So during my stay here, there was a semi-permanent group of riot police stationed outside, for reasons I still don't understand. Noise some nights was intolerable, on top of the uncomfortable beds.

Breakfast was a big disappointment too. Good coffee was about the only plus point, otherwise there was a small selection of cereal (served in "bowls" - in reality tiny glass things that you typically get, for example, half a pear in), some inedible warm things, and some strange bread-like substances. Not a great start to the day, in reality, and the room was also typically too small for the number of residents. I don't plan on returning.

This is not a hotel which will wow you... However it was good value and provided me with everything I wanted; a well sized hotel room with a balcony and view over the Archaeological Museum, free internet access, and a good sustaining breakfast. It's also in an area, Exharchia, where there is a vibrant ( perhaps sometimes a little too "edgy") bar scene with a few good restaurants. Some people may find it a little too far from the Acroplos and the Plaka, but Sytagma Square is only about ten minutes away by bus. all in all I was impressed and will be coming back.

We were inter-railing in Europe with 2 teenage daughters and needed a place to stay in Athens in peak season at the last minute. We wanted a safe area, not too far from the centre of things, with air-conditioning, free internet and breakfast included. The Best Western Museum Hotel filled the criteria admirably. Located right opposite the Archeological Museum and one metro stop or 20 min walk from the Acropolis. It was in the student area - safe and with cheap souvlaki bars just around the corner. The hotel offered limitless free orange juice in the bar. The orange juice was really more of a re-constituted orange "squash" - but hey, it was free and in the blistering heat of August we were grateful. The buffet breakfast was ample (more of the orange squash though). The rather crusty looking manager turned out to be very helpful indeed with information and recommendations. His Greek island recommendation and travel information were spot on. We returned to the same hotel on our way back through Athens at the end of our holiday. On both occasions the manager offered us a free up-grade from a single family room to two separate adjacent rooms. The only caveat with this offer if you are a non-smoker - check first that the rooms are not classified as "smoking rooms" . The rooms themselves were exactly what you would expect from a best Western and this hotel was an excellent option for the price range.

The staff was excellent gave lots of information not on brochures. The breakfast was fantastic and included in the price of the room which not realizing it until then is a big bonus for the hotel and our pocket book. Not far from underground transportation that brings you to all the sights you want to see. If you are looking for a budget hotel that is clean and friendly then this is the place to stay.
