My husband and I had our first visit to Greece earlier this month, but only five days. We decided to not attempt to find our way around a new city on our own, but rather tap into the knowledge and experience of locals by using taxi-guides. It was a great choice. Michael met us at the airport, and by the time we arrived at our hotel, we felt very comfortable with him and with our plans for the next day. Michael gave us an overview of Athens the next morning, choosing more wisely than we would have on our own, to start our day earlier rather than later. After giving us some historic perspective on the Acroplis, he set us on our way up to the Parthenon. We arrived before the great crowds, and the temperature was comfortable, not as hot as they would have been had we departed later in the morning. Then we moved on to Athens, the city. Michael chose highlights to show us, and to give us an idea of things to do on our own the next day, and also how to get around on the fabulous metro system. The afternoon took us to old Corinth, a lovely little town with many sites still under study and reconstruction, followed by a delicious, generous lunch at a favorite restaurant of Michael's. He would always point out places of interest or stop along the way for interesting things.
After two days on our own, Stratos met us at our hotel for a half day drive along the coast, a stop at the Temple of Poseidon, lunch at a seaside restaurant, and then to drop us at the airport.
Both Michael and Stratos were congenial, knowledgeable, fluent in English, and delightful companions. No question that we will contact them next time we plan a trip to Greece, which we would be delighted to re-visit!
