“Good Foodie Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014 NEW

Although I am not a "Foodie" but I do like to visit the highly rated restaurants on Trip Advisor. We walked to this place from Ermou Street in the heart of Athens (which was quite far). It is located in a residential area, when you first get there you really don't see a address, but then a gentleman walks up to you and opens the door. This place is nice, the food although quiet expensive, was a great experience. Their presentation is awesome, their wine/beer pairing was on point! The Coulouri bread and Cretan buttermilk just melt in your mouth.

“A very different restaurant in Athens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014 NEW

We been there two weeks ago, the restaurant is very expensive and to do a reservation is really difficult, the menus are standardized by the chef, and the ideia is a molecular cooking, It is good, but not soooo amazing.. I like it, if You have money to try different things, go ahead !

“Really enjoyed the experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014 NEW

This was our first Michelin star experience abroad and we choose the Funky Gourmet over the other Michelin starred restaurants in Athens largely because of the Trip Advisor reviews - we weren't disappointed, the overall experience was fabulous but we didn't "get" some of the courses in tasting menu no 2 (without wine) hence the 4 star rating and not 5!

Service and staff were excellent, we were also welcomed in a lovely manner and the entrance up the spiral staircase and down the other staircase was a nice touch which we liked.

The food was funky and most of it was gourmet - presentation was near enough art and I loved the funkiness of that!
It was a great start, the frozen lime margarita amuse bouche was tasty and refreshing and we both enjoyed it.
Greek bottarga with white chocolate - mmmm the white chocolate was nice, the wafer was nice but we sort of didn't get this course as a whole - maybe it's the whole cheese and chocolate thing!
Salsify in the soil - beautiful presentation and a nice taste but not a totally outstanding dish.
Pastitsio - wow this was a dish - they could have fed me this all night for every course! We loved it!
Coulouri bread and Cretan buttermilk - this was a bit of a slice of heaven in bread, light as you like! Mmmm!
‘Kakavia’ fish soup Shabu - Shabu - the miss of the night - neither of us liked it and we tried all sorts of different combos with it, it didn't taste hideous but I wouldn't want to repeat it again!
Snails - in a risotto with truffle - mmm! I have never eaten snails before but we both thought what the heck we'll give it a go and thought of snails as earth mushrooms and got through it that way, not bad and I liked the crunchy texture in the risotto and the truffle added to the earthy aromas!
Summer Wreath - Beetroot, cheese, mint salad as light as you like and great after the risotto - we liked it!
Greek Salad - in a sorbet - it was weird and funky but obviously a hard dish to get right but they did get it right!
Scallop in the sea - gorgeous to look at and eat, love scallops anyway and these were yummy!
Lamb chops - yummy - cooked very slowly and then eaten off the bone and tearing the meat off - very satisfying.
Smoked ice cream sandwich - like a smoky Oreo - didn't get the smoke at first but then it did add to the flavour afterwards. Quirky.
Coco - Choco - we totally loved this dessert - chocolate, coconut, berries, all different textures and more - could have happily eaten another one - stand out dish!
Orange explosion - drama and funkiness and a wow finish to the meal! Just don;t linger too long with your camera like I did lol!
We obviously need to come back to Athens to compare other Michelin starred restaurants but it was certainly a fun meal and we never knew quite what to expect, funky decor, not so funky area but it all added to the atmosphere!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014 NEW

This was the best meal I have had in my life.

I am only writing more because TripAdvisor has a 100 character minimum.
