“An elegant hotel with an extraordinary view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013

My wife and I stayed 2 nights at this hotel. It has a very good location, close to Zeus temple, not far from Acropolis and Syntagma Square. We decided to ask for un upgrade (from Executive to a room with a large window to Acropolis and Zeus temple) and get one for a price : 120 more Euros per night , but it was worth : not only the view was fantastic, the room was great.
The breakfast was very good, a lot of good quality food.
On the negative saide : they have problems with the plumbing . We heard noise from the bathroom (two or three times) and there was water next to the shower before we used it. The bathroom itself was very large and elegant.
We recomend this hotel to people who want to stay in an elegant, classic-modern place. If you can afford the "room with a view" , take it !
We didn't use the spa.

Room Tip: Go for the best !

The location of this hotel is perfect for exploring the Athens monuments but we were disappointed with the hotel itself. The lobby is very opulent and impressive, but our standard room overlooking the pool was very small and cheaply furnished. The bathroom was new but poorly finished and the bath/shower so narrow you have to turn sideways to wash. Breakfast is upstairs in the restaurant overlooking the ruins but the food is nothing special. Given its marketed as a 5 star hotel we felt let down and would look for something with better value in the same location if we had our time again.

This is my second stay and definately not my last one at the Royal Olympic. I just love being in this hotel, the room was great and breakfast was fantastic. Best thing is the rooftop terrace with the magnificent view overlooking Athens and the Acropolis. I highly recommend to anyone wishing to have a memorable time in Athens.

We stayed for two nights in August whilst in Athens, the reviews on TripAdvisor which we had read before booking were quite true.
Great location & Public Area's you could not ask for any better.
The swimming pool was good although we could not ever get a sunbed during our stay.
The rooms was reasonable and had all the usual things you would expect, we had a room over looking the pool on the 5th Floor, some of the other rooms we saw did not look as nice as the one we had so I think the rooms vary although we did only pay for a basic room. Breakfast was okay on the beautiful roof top terrace, only had toast as the cooked buffet wasn't very warm but just toast & coffee was fine because that fab view made up for it.
No so good, the air conditioning just about took the hot heat out of the room but it did not really cool us down, the air conditioning was dirty and needed cleaning, no one bothered to come and sort it out, one wonders what you might get with dirty air con. It was August and one would expect more efficient air con in a five star hotel.
Also not so good were the high prices for food and drink in the hotel.
Non of the negatives accept the poor air con were a problem for us because this hotel served its purpose for us in Athens, the location is the big selling point. For the right price I would stay at this hotel again if staying in Athens but perhaps not in July and August.

Room Tip: 5th Floor overlooking the pool for a basic room

I would have to agree with many reviews on this one. The lobby is lovely and perfectly air conditioned. Unlike our rooms. Standard rooms booked by travel agent werent 5 star I'm afraid. However we did like the configuration of the "connecting rooms" as we are a family of 4. Breakfast area on the rooftop (which is the bar in the evening) is pretty stunning especially in the evening overlooking many key sights. Location is great and perhaps if you pay more for a better room you'll feel you got your money's worth.

We stayed 1 night at the Royal Olympic before joining our cruise ship.
The welcome at reception was luke warm but we got a decent room fairly quickly.

The views from the restaurant are great, you can see the Acropolis and nearby very well. The bar there was good too at night time. Breakfast was too much of a free for all for my liking, too many people and food running out too frequently, but not a big deal as we knew we'd be gorging ourselves later aboard.

The hotel foyer is impressive but I am afraid that is where it ends with this hotel. This hotel needs work. The blankets on the bed were old the bathroom was not that clean. The lamp in the room was damaged. The breakfast was ok. The food in the bar is expensive compared to outside the hotel with a toasted sadwich costing €10.00 and around €3.00 for a coke. The bathroom in our room had stains on the tiles. The pool looks impressive but it was crowded and small. We purchesed water outside the hotel as it was much cheaper and we were informed by the staff that we could noy consume anything bought outside the hotel beside the pool. Not worth the money.
