“i hate shower curtains!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

a quite nice, but dated hotel. The public areas are lovely, however the rooms are dated and the bathrooms are very dated. the room i was allocated had a shower above the bath and a shower curtain which i hate! wonderful location in the center of Athens and within walking distance of the acropolis

“Luxury!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

A luxury hotel with great view on Acropolis and city centre. Very clean rooms, great restaurant on the roof. Breakfast rather disappointing as for this kind of hotel but freshly squeezed orange juice was an advantage. Free WI-Fi for 24 hours with good speed. Would like to stay there again.

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013 via mobile

Excellent location, you can walk everywhere. Wifi is difficult to access because you have to get a code from the front desk and it doesnt always work, spotty coverage in rooms. Breakfast buffet is really good and the views cannot be beat. Overall great hotel!

“Beware of the OLD rooms!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

My 16 year old son and I stayed here in June, 2012. We were booked into this hotel by Kensington Tours, which I do NOT recommend. The hotel placed us in a very old, cramped room. The bathroom was ancient, the carpet old and worn, the walls dirty, the furniture worn out. I had requested separate beds, and of course they gave us the two twin beds pushed together routine. I requested another room, and NOPE none available. Worst of all the AC was only capable of getting the room to a nice and toasty 80 degrees F. We were here for five days, then toured the Greek islands, and then back at the Royal Pain for one more night before we left for the US. Upon our return, I again complained about the room, and we were offered another room for an additional $175 per night. We went up and looked at it, and it was STUNNING. I'm sure these are the rooms that the other reviewers are talking about below. Just BEWARE, especially if you're booking thru a travel agent/ company, that there are two levels of rooms, and if they think they can get away with it, they will stick you in the crap rooms, and tell you that's what you paid for. In all fairness, I feel like I do need to mention that the location is awesome, and the views from the roof are stunning. Breakfast was very good, the lobby was beautiful, and all of the public areas were air conditioned very well. They also have free internet access in their business center, which was handy. The pool area is pretty, but there is NO shallow end to the pool, it's all deep, and the water is cold, which I found odd given that the weather was so hot when we were there. Also, they do not mention it on the website anywhere, but they close the pool every night at 7pm. This was one of the chief reasons that we selected this hotel was for the pool, that we could cool off in after a long day in the sun. Then we were thrown out every night at 7pm. VERY DISAPPONTED with the pool closing at 7pm, and the really bad rooms!!! Go to the Athen's Gate if you want to be in this area. They are only 100 feet away from the Royal Pain, and looked nicer, with the same views. Oh, and there's a pizza place just outside the front door that makes amazing and cheap pizza!!!!! After you get done being "cultural," and you just want to crash, relax, and eat............. go and get $10 pizza. They have an English menu if you ask them for it, and they are forbidden, by the hotel, to deliver to you, so you will have to go and pick it up, but it's a very short walk. Enjoy Greece!!!!! Just skip this hotel. You can do better for your $$$$$.

Room Tip: Definately request one of the renovated, LARGE rooms, and then get ready, because they're really...

“Just what you want in Athens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

The hotel is within walking distance of all important places, whether Acropolis, shopping district, Plaka and what have you. The rooms are nice size and the breakfast buffet, contrary to what other reviewers claim, is very good (except for the coffee). The front desk/concierge was very helpful and caring. I will be back at this hotel if I am back in Athens!!
