“Great location opposite Temple of Zeus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2011

This large, fully established hotel is a cool oasis in a hot city. Centrally located to all the historical sites it is very welcoming and efficient. The pool is so essential after trekking around the acropolis, Temple of Zeus (across the road), changing of the Guard (up the road) and street markets (down the road). The breakfast was good and included in our tariff. Large tour groups stay here so you could time your breakfast before or after the horde arrive at the breakfast room. We stayed for a further night after returning from the Greek Islands and were upgraded to an amazing room on the 6th floor (Room 601). Even a view from the shower/bath. It would be worth requesting this room - you will not be sorry. The view is breathtaking from the balcony, watch the sunset over the acropolis and see the monuments lit up at night. We really enjoyed our stay at the Royal Olympic.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking out at the Temple of Zeus. 6th Floor (Room 601) is fantastic.

I stayed here for 3 nights in September 2011. On arrival my room was upgraded (always a good start) and the people on the front desk were perfectly polite and helpful. My bag was brought up to my room within minutes (I'd left it with the hotel earlier in the day as I arrived well before normal check in time).
The room was well appointed, with bath robes, slippers and the usual toiletries etc. Great-sized room with view of the swimming pool in the central courtyard and plenty of hanging space and drawer space.
I didn't have the breakfasts though I did have one room service meal which was delivered speedily and it was fine.
The swimming pool was a good size, though there didn't seem to be much of a shallow end so not great for kids. Because the swimming pool is surrounded by the various wings of the hotel as the sun moves around, it can be hard to keep out of the shade so that may explain why there weren't many sunbathers. Nevertheless it made for a refreshing dip to cool down from the Athens heat.
I had one trip to the roof top bar/restaurant one evening to see the Athens night skyline and it does have an impressive view of the Acropolis etc.

Room Tip: A very quiet hotel in general from my experience. My room had a view of the courtyard and swimming p...

Nice hotel and for amenities and price was a great value. Easy walking access to most sites and restaurants in Plaka area. Great locations to sit and relax in both the library area and the poolside. Rooms were nice, but not very lavish. Free wifi over all the hotel space made working around the pool or in the room seamless. If you are not needing to go to breakfast early it is best to wait until after 8:00 am. By then the tour groups have finished and gone to their buses. Great freshly squeezed orange juice available at breakfast.

We stayed in Athens after a week of sailing the Greek Isles. Our experience was fantastic. We had a room with gorgeous views of the Temple and the Acropolis. Our bathroom was all marble and very, very clean. A welcome sight after being on a sailboat all week. The room was well appointed. The linens very clean. We found the hotel staff very polite. Location superb for a weekend in Athens. Everything is in short walking distance. The only negative was the breakfast buffet. It wasn't worth the price. It's just as easy to hit the Plakka and enjoy one of the many sidewalk cafes. Overall, our visit was just wonderful and I would recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a Temple of Zeus view on an upper floor.

After a tour of Greece and the islands we really wanted a little bit of luxury for one night. We booked a deluxe room, it was located on the 3rd floor. Entering the room, immediately disappointed with the size and the fact it was a 5*, more like a 2/3* here in the UK. The bathroom was shocking, mould on the ceilings. Immediately called the front desk who got a maid to open the room next to us. Again mould on the ceilings in this room. They finally decided to upgrade us to a 'suite'. Not really a 'suite' but a larger room with a chair in it! This time the bathroom was not mouldy but only a shower, no bath for a 'suite' room in a 5* hotel.
It seems very much like this hotel is in the dark ages. Internet is not that free, you get a scratch card which gives you 60 minutes for free after that you have to pay for it per hour. That is after you have gone to a website an entered a password. Doing this on a smartphone is not that practical. Login seems to throw you out every 5 minutes of non-internet surfing, not workable.
As it was late we went to the 7th floor restaurant. Very expensive for what you get (€140 for a bottle of wine, I will come to that later, seak and fish). The wine, very impressed with it. I cannot remember then name but it's from Macedonia - try it!!!
Breakfast, buffer meal standard nothing special, the bread was fresh..
They have a bunch of guys outside working for the hotel who will get you a taxi to the airport. It was a regulated cab that turned up (yellow Merc). It was all on the meter and we got to the airport showing €28. The driver then told us it was €38 - toll roads, airport taxi rank charges and € 3 for picking me up at the hotel!!!!
All in all, a disappointed experience. I really wanted it to be a great experience.

This is a nice hotel but not sure it was worth all of the money as some things you would expect to be perfect were not (ie there was mould all over the ceiling in the bathroom in our room) and breakfast was very basic and a bit cheap.

However good pool, bed was massive and the staff were very helpful especially the American doorman!

I would stay again.

Room Tip: Try to get one high up and not by the main road as it was very noisy.

This hotel was brilliant for our long sight-seeing weekend in Athens. All of the main attractions were within easy walking distance. The view of the Olympian Zeus from the roof bar was amazing, though the bar prices were pretty steep. I agree with a previous review that breakfast was a scrum and one morning we even had our table 'nicked' whilst getting our food although we put our maps etc on it. But hey, can't get too upset!

Really glad we chose this hotel and had a lovely stay. It was so nice returning each evening after a busy day.
