First the positive: Great views and location at the top of the clean, cool and hip Kolonaki neighborhood. That's where it ends.
Service is strained, all simple tasks become a grand ordeal, these people are not here for you, they're just biding time between coffee and smoke breaks. One staff person sighed loudly when I inquired about transportation to the hotel from Athens airport, and eventually quoted me over 120 euros for transport to the hotel, IF she could even do it. We found a shuttle bus at the airport for 70 euros for our group, and they told us they go to the St George Lycabettus hotel daily.
Upon check-in we were not given the rooms with views promised in our booking, and no offer to accommodate was made. Wireless internet was advertised as included, but upon arrival we learned it was only free in a 20'x20' area near the lobby, and that was spotty at best. Wireless was 6 euros an hour or 18 euro per day... an absolute ridiculous rate that nobody in their right mind should pay. Our room safe was broken and became an ordeal to get fixed, the 2'x3' balcony overlooked a dusty and loud construction site, beware taking a room that faces the hill... this construction look like it will take at least another year or two to complete at the rate they were going.
Bathrooms were falling apart and laughable, although the room came with 3 telephones for our "convenience"??? Laughable again. Sketchy linens on the beds, and grit around the edges of every window and table surface. Don't even think of grabbing a drink other than iced water at their rooftop bar (not exactly rooftop FYI) where beers and soda start at 8 euros each, and cocktails and champagne range from 12-18 euros per drink to go along with their unconcerned service. To make things even more hilarious, their pool closes at 6pm, which is an absolute joke with nights being so warm in Athens, and with most tourists out and about during the day seeing sights, what you want to come "home" to is a cool dip and relaxing lounge with a drink before you get ready for dinner. Well forget about it, that would be too much work for these fine folks.
Dig deeper when looking for places to stay in Kolonaki travelers, and if you go here be warned that you're treated more like a 2 or 3 star than a 5.
