This is an outstanding palatial hotel very well situated in Athens.The public rooms as well as the guest rooms are magnificently furnished . The service is superb and this property meets every criterea of a 5 star hotel.However,prices are extremely overpriced in the hotel.A frozen coffee at the pool -16 euros [25 dollars] orange juice 10 euros[15 dollars] ...internet is not free and rather expensive....Be careful when getting a cab in front of the hotel...We took a five minute cab ride which was 5 euros.The cabdriver told us there was an additional 5 euro charge because the doorman hailed the cab.....The spa treatments looked wonderful but were highly overpriced.....If money is not a factor,or one is on an expense account ,this is a fabulous hotel.

We stayed one night at the Grande Bretagne before embarking on a cruise, and on the whole it was a fine experience. The hotel is beautifully situated on a square diagonal to the Parliament building, and our room had a balcony with a direct view of the Acropolis. The rooftop terrace restaurant is beautiful and has a breathtaking Acropolis view. We regret not dining there. The buffet breakfast served there is opulent and the service excellent.

The negatives were the zoo-like scene at the small rooftop pool and the mobbed lobby at check-in and check-out. In both cases the hotel was simply overcrowded and disorganized. Even so, I would stay here again.

What else can be said about the Grande Bretagne that hasn't been said many times? We stayed here for 3 nights before boarding a cruise ship and loved it. We used Starwood Points and upon arrival had been upgraded to the "Butler Floor" with private check-in on the 6th Floor. Everything was ready on our arrival and we were whisked to our room promptly with the Butler arriving a few seconds behind to show us how everything worked and to see if we required anything. He also noticed that we were missing luggage and took all our information so he could follow up with the airline - called us at 8:30 that evening to say it was on its way from the airport and as they did not know what time it would arrive they would hold it until we called down for it in the morning. Was also very helpful at making suggestions and reservations for dinner and suggestions for sightseeing and shopping. Could not belive the size of the bathroom and the amenities supplied. All staff was most friendly and helpful. The hotel was in the middle of town so very easy to get around to all the sights and shoppping. We would definitley stay here again should we return to Athens.

Outstanding hotel. The rooms are large and beautiful. The concierge service is very helpful. Try to get breakfast as part of your package, so you can look at the Acropolis as you sip your coffee. The rooftop restaurant has excellent food for dinner also.
