“Total Excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012 via mobile

We spent four nights at The Grande Bretagne prior to our cruise departure from Athens. I can honestly say that our stay was flawless. I received a pre arrival email several weeks ago giving specifics on the hotel and services offered. Several days prior to arrival I received another email advising me of the upcoming transportation strike (all taxis and public transportation).
Several solutions were offered turning what could have been a "stab in the dark" experience into a smooth, stress-free arrival.
Every single aspect from that point forward can only be described as superlative. The only thing that rivaled the view from the rooftop bar/restaurant was the food and service.
Can't wait to come back.

Fantastic location, right in the heart of Athens, with views to the Acropolis from the rooftop bar and restaurant, and greek rioters outside Parliament! The rooftop pool is tiny but a lovely spot to sit in the shade and enjoy a quiet drink.
Service is professional and courteous, and the room was very nicely appointed. We only stayed one night, wished it could have been longer!

...and I'm very, VERY picky. The character, history, location, amenities, service, courtesy, pride of staff, food, drink, and more, make this a very special hotel. You will be at the best hotel in Athens if you stay at the Hotel Grande Bretagne.

Room Tip: Courtyard facing is nice and quiet and not inferior.

The hotel is gorgeous and the staff is very friendly. The location is just across Parliament with a great restaurant on the rooftop of the Acropolis at night. The restaurant was excellent. The rooms are a little smaller, but the spa amenitites are out of this world. The indoor pool includes aromatherapy rooms, saunas, etc. We ordered room service for breakfasts and the service was very prompt. Overall, a great experience and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone that wants a great location and hotel amenitites. The beds and pillows were so comfortable that we didn't even want to get out of bed!

Great location. Hotel has the charm and elegance and service that befits a grande dame. A large room, well equipped.
The staff was superb. The concierge knowledgeable and oh so helpful! Food is expensive.
Try the Spa. Beautifully done and a great way to relax after that long journey.

Our room was spacious and the bedding was very comfortable. The bathroom was very large with a tub and a separte shower. But the toilet was situated oddly - just a few inches from the wall so that it felt cramped. Overall, elegant atmosphere with great service. The roof top bar/restaurant is a must see, with a fantastic view of the Acropolis. Make sure to see it at night. Dinner was expensive but worth every penny.

From the moment they pick you up in the BMW limousine to when you are driven to the door, one is entertained by staff that has worked in the hotel the past 20 years! Very friendly staff. The hotel is beautiful and so centrally located, 5 mins walk to Plaka the shopping district! Opposite the Parliment building, so stay away if demos are expected in the city as thats where they happen! Fabulous view of Acropolis from breakfast place which becomes a dinner place at night!

Room Tip: Facing the Square is the best view!
