This hotel is centrally located in Plaka and that is its biggest advantage. In addition to that they have several little value additions like free storage of luggage if you are island hopping, a great roof top bar with excellent views, free tour advice and generally very service oriented (my request for a bathtub was promptly adhered to). However, the lift is too small and there is only one lift for 6 floors and apart from room, breakfast and the rooftop bar there is no other amenities in this hotel. However, you would not need to be in the hotel as all restaurants, shopping areas are next door.

Room Tip: There is no room service. Be prepared accordingly

This hotel is in an excellent location a short walk from Monastiraki Square Metro Station with direct Line 3 metros from the airport for 8 euros each way or 7 euros if 2 people travel together. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. They have a lady who handles guest relations and speaks to everyone at breakfast each morning offering to assist with planning or suggesting suitable itineraries, (I'm sorry I can't remeber her name, but she was very helpful) which is a really nice touch. The rooms are not large but have everything you need for a city break. We were in a 4th floor corner room. Other reviews have mentioned that it is a bit noisy and this is true but not excessively so, you are after all in the centre of the city within walking distance to all the main attractions. You are also very close to the Cathedral and a church so if you are a light sleeper ear plugs maybe useful when the bells sound for mass. The breakfast buffet is what you would expect from a European City Hotel, there was a selection of hot and cold food, cakes, pastries, bread, cheese and cold meats, plenty of it all freshly prepared. There is also free tea, coffee and biscuits available alle afternoon in the restaurant on a self serve basis which is a nice touch. The real treat is up on the roof where the are comfy chairs with a superb view of the Acropolis. There is a bar on the roof which is open from 5.30pm but you can enjoy the seating and view any time. The hotel is perfectly located for all the major attractions and is close to 2 metro stations, if you don't mind walking you can easily get to all the attractions on foot. Right next door to the hotel is a small supermarket with all the essentials you may need at very reasonable prices, for example a 1.5 litre bottle of water was 80cents and a 500ml bottle of coke 1 euro 10 cents, they also sell toiletries etc for any forgotten items. The staff in here are also very helpful and friendly. I would definitly stay at this hotel again if in Athens and would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.

Room Tip: Higher floors will be quieter than the lower ones

My daughter and I stayed at the Plaka hotel for 3 nights in April, the location is excellent in the middle of the Plaka district, handy to the tourist and shopping districts as well as the Acropolis and public transport to take you to the port, Glyfada and suburban Athens.
Firstly the Hotel, we paid extra for an Acropolis view room, and yes it did have a view of the Acropolis but because it was only on the second floor we had to look past the service area of the hotel which wasn't particularly pleasant. The room was a 2 star standard, the room and bathroom were tired and in need of an update, the window was dangerous, I managed to jam my finger trying to close it, one big blood blister under the nail was the result.
The breakfast was good and it was a pleasant surprise to have two young ladies circulating around the room giving sightseeing advice and directions, many other hotels in tourist areas could learn from this ( one small problem when the trainee told us to the wrong number tram to get to Glyfada, fortunately we realised the mistake just before boarding)
The view from the rooftop bar is fantastic! We spent a couple of hours here admiring the view, great during the day and even better at night.

Room Tip: Acropolis view room, but you must have a high floor to get the advantage of this

Great central location. Monastiraki square is just a few minutes walk away, and it's quite easy to reach the Agora and Acropolis as well. A hot breakfast was included which allowed us to fuel up for the day. The staff circulate at breakfast and offer their knowledge and assistance in helping you formulate a customized itinerary. Eva helped us find out about how to get to Ancient Corinth, which would have been difficult/impossible to do on our own. There is a rooftop garden/bar which has amazing night time views of the Acropolis. Next door is a nice mini market for snacks and drinks. Some really good souvlaki a block away.
We look forward to returning some time soon!

This was our second time at the Plaka Hotel Athens and I must mention it was fantastic. The location is amazing - out the front of hotel is Ermou Ave - great shopping, amazing restaurants, monastiraki flea market and of course the metro stop. Rooftop garden is breath taking - I will miss having my coffee overlooking the Parthenon - A very special mention and thank you to the amazing staff at Reception MICHAEL AND VASSILI - always smiling and eager to help us - thank you also for forwarding a photo my daughter left in our room back to us in Australia. We will be back again soon.

Room Tip: Request a room facing Parthenon
