We spent one night at the Plaka Hotel in June. A lovely room on the top floor with fabulous view of the Acropolis. The location is absolutely perfect - with Plaka and Monastiraki on the doorstep.

Contrary to other reviews, the front reception staff (a rotation of 4 while we were there) could not have been more warm, welcoming, accommodating and helpful from the moment we arrived until our departure.

A great choice in possibly the best location for a one or two night holiday visit to Athens.

Very small room--tiny. About 7 feet across, and the bathroom matched. However, the view was unsurpassed, and the location was quite convenient. The staff wasn't rude, but I wouldn't call them an asset. Questions were met with grudging suggestions; at one point, I asked directions to a bookstore and the front desk clerk gave them brusquely. When I went to write it down, he stopped me, saying, "You don't need to write it down. Just LISTEN." However, the room was clean, and the view out the window was a great straight shot of the acropolis. The rooftop bar was nice.

We wanted a slightly nicer hotel for our last night in Greece, with just a little more space and a little bigger bathroom than some of the 80-100 Euro places we'd stayed in. We found the Plaka Hotel, and it was great. We paid 129 euro on booking.com, booked it online on Friday morning for a Friday night stay (don't try this in high season!) Our room had really no view - blocked by a building, but otherwise was great. Top floor, one flight up to the rooftop garden with the amazing acropolis view. Very clean room, definitely a bit bigger, a shower we could turn around in. Beds were comfortable, sheets were nice, TV and AC worked, & there's a safe and hairdryer in the room.

Hotel is very very central, and the rooftop garden is a really nice place to hang out in the evening. Staff were great - on-time wakeup call, and they let us come for early breakfast since we had to leave for the airport before they usually started serving. Breakfast was the best we'd had - breads, eggs, cheese, cereals, pastries, yogurt, spoon sweets, honey, juices, coffee/tea, and lots of everything.

We stayed at the Plaka hotel for two nights after our arrival in Athens on May 4th. As we had heard, the location was absolutely fantastic. It is right in the heart of the Plaka, very close to all the sights.

It had been recommended to us to use Athens as a jumping-off point for the rest of Greece, and that virtually everything of interest in Athens can be seen in a day or two. This was true. And because we had chosen the Plaka Hotel, it was very easy for us to walk to all the interesting sights. I cannot overstate the convenience of the location.

Breakfast was very good! One side dish that is not on the menu is the second-hand smoke that a person is subjected to in any indoor space in Greece. This took quite a bit of getting used to. However, we discovered that the windows in the breakfast room opened up to allow us some fresher air to breathe. This will not likely be an option in the heat of the summer. Does EVERYONE in Greece light up a cigarette the second they are done eating? And the majority of the guest in the hotel were NOT Greek, but Aussies, Kiwis, or other Europeans. Anyway....there was toasts, croissants, eggs, meat, cheese, yogurt/honey (yum!), cereals, etc etc etc. Pretty much anything you could want for breakfast.

Our room had a nice sized bathroom with a tub. I've read about the tiny bathrooms, but ours was not. (Room 408) The beds are hard. My back was sore after two nights, but I am used to a soft mattress.

The front desk clerk was surly as previously reviewed by others. He just didn't have any customer-service skills, poor guy. I tried to chat him up and get him to crack a smile by being EXTRA nice, and he did manage to soften a bit. But don't be looking for any help from him for much of anything.

Overall, we were very pleased with the Plaka. Like I mentioned, we LOVED the location, and the rest was very acceptable as well.

We had a great stay at the Plaka. We were on the 6th floor at the side and this was fine. A bit of noise but what do you expect - we just put in our ear plugs if required!!

Bathroom needs updating but ok. The fridge was handy too. Loved the rooftop terrace for sunbathing and beautiful views. Breakfast was more than adequate. Staff were great at all times day and night.

We enjoyed the situation and found we were close to all sites and in the evening cafes and bars were nearby. We found some lovely places to drink and eat close by which were reasonably priced as well.
