“Great hotel in Athens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Have just returned from a 5 week holiday ending at The Plaka Hotel in Athens. What a great place to finish. We opted for a deluxe room with a balcony, great to watch the local activities. The room was spotlessly clean and had all necessary amenities ie very comfortable bed, cold bar fridge, hairdryer,TV, free wi-fi for Ist hour then 2euros/hr but no tissues in room or coffee/tea making facilities but there is complimentary coffee and biscuits available all day in the breakfast room. Ist floor has book exchange near computer. Breakfast was more than OK with REAL homecooked scrambled eggs, bacon fruit, cold cuts and the best yoghurt ever etc. The location was exceptional, close to all tourist attractions. 10mins easy walk to Syntagma Square, 3 mins to Monastariki station and the Agora and other interesting ruins are within easy walking distance.Heaps of reasonably priced restaurants/cafes nearby and shops on Ermou Street, 30seconds away. Mini market next door selling cold alcohol and other necessities. The VIEW of the Acropolis from the rooftop is unreal. There are lounges available and the bar opens around 5.00pm until 11.00m for that special drink whilst staring at one of the worlds greatest icons. The staff were most helpful with directions, advice etc.Would stay again at The Plaka Hotel again and would highly recommend.

Room Tip: We chose a deluxe with balcony not Acropolis view. We don't like A/C so sleep with the door/wind...

Location of the hotel is very good - just few steps from main sights of Athens. It is situated directly on the street full of shops in case you decide to buy something.

The room was very clean and the staff was very helpful. Rooftop terrace is the place where you can relax after day in the city.

Definately recommended

Just off Ermou, so you can walk from Syntagma square or, closer still, from the Monastriaki metro stop. Convenient to everything for the tourist. Staff were helpful, room was clean and modern; buffet breakfast with tea or coffee served until late afternoon; rooftop bar was not open but the views are lovely - the Acropolis, Lycabettus hill, the Stoa, Ancient Agora and the Thession can be seen - there are lounge chairs to relax, read, enjoy the views. It's not a fancy place but very nice and has everything you need. We were there during the strike (and riots) so we took a taxi to the airport but X95 bus usually runs from Syntagma square (10 min. walk max. from the hotel) - it's 5 euros pp. Another option is the metro from Monastriaki - also on strike during our stay.

Stayed at the Hotel Plaka for three nights in July while visiting Athens. The location of this Hotel is superb with everything a walk from the Hotel. There is a wide range for Breakfast at the Hotel and the rooms are clean and comfortable. There is a wide selection of restaurants nearby but the view from this Hotel of Acropolis is worth a stay there itself!

Would definitely stay at this Hotel again.

We stayed at the Plaka for 2 days and could walk to everything - in fact we had to. As we landed in town during a public transportation strike, if we wanted to see it, we had to get everywhere on foot. We chose the Plaka because other reviewers talked about its wonderful views of the Acropolis from the rooftop cafe and all the raves were true. And even better, we had the same view unobstructed view from room 311 which was roomy, very clean, and comfortable.

Our one criticism was of the desk staff. Others have talked about how helpful they found these employees to be. Unfortunately we had a different experience - the staff at the Plaka were the least helpful of all the hotel people we encountered. I'd recommend that the owners keep whoever was on staff the dates of the positive reviews and fire this batch.

That said, we would book here again if we return to Athens and attend to our guidebook's suggestions more diligently..

Room Tip: Our room (311) had an unobstructed view of the Acropolis and while our friends in room 612 could see...

Excellent location, nice size rooms. The breakfast buffet is perfect - again it's clean and the place has been renovated. From the terrasse you have a fabulous view the the Acropolis. Perfect place to have a drink as the sun sets and the lights of the Acropolis light up one after the other. Tons of terrasse/restaurants at your doorstep. Can't beat it for price & quality.
At the breakfast area - it's open all afternoon for coffee and cookies. Small charge for WiFi (8E for 24 hours use - not consecutive).

If you want to live within the Plaka and close to the Acropolis, choose this hotel. It is clean, affordable, with air conditioning that works and has very friendly informative staff, free coffee/tea until around 6 PM and what was remarkable they add cucumber to their water pitcher which is most refreshing after being outside or sightseeiing. On the roof top at night you have a spectacular view of the Acropolis, it's so very magical. Plenty of eateries around the hotel and it is quite safe, even at night. We were three ladies and never felt uncomfortable. The Athenians were just such a friendly lot.

Room Tip: The first room we got was fine so we did not have to look for another
