“beautiful boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012

The staff at the Lotus is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are beautiful and clean. The breakfast has a lot of choices. It is not just a typical "Continental Breakfast" like we get in the US. There is a charming restaurant right across the street which was perfect for the first night. There is also a Hop On Hop Off bus stop within blocks of the Lotus. For one fee this bus goes past all of the attractions in the city and is good for two days. The Wi-Fi was strong and I was able to use my iphone without problem. I would definitely stay at the Lotus if I were to go to Athens again.

Room Tip: my friends had a room on the fourth floor with a huge deck. We asked for some chairs so we could si...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Athens Lotus Hotel for 5 nights very recently. (I joined tripadvisor specifically to leave a gleaming 5* review of this hotel.)
We arrived via taxi from Syntagma Square as I'd heard the area was really rough, but we had no problems at all. There were always people around, but we'd recommend getting the Metro (which is literally a few seconds walk from the hotel.) or a taxi in and out of the centre to the hotel if you can though, the prices really are extremely cheap and it's worth it for your own piece of mind as some of the neighbourhoods in between the hotel and the centre aren't great. (But it's like that in any city).
We were greeted at the door by very friendly English speaking staff, they keep the door locked constantly and they always greeted you at the door when you arrive (they have a 24 hour desk) which I found very comforting.
They have a lift which was really great for luggage, and when we arrived in our room we were greeted with a decent sized, immaculately clean room with comfortable beds and a (very!) clean bathroom. There had been comments that the bathroom was very dark, which is true, but as they use energy saving light bulbs it just takes a few seconds to brighten. They have very modern suites as they've just been renovated, and the shower was lovely.
The view for us wasn't great for us to be honest as the building across the road is being renovated and some building work would start in the morning about 8am, but the rooms have doubleglazing and if you close the window and use the aircon it didn't bother us at all. We also had a balcony which was a nice surprise.
There was our own private safety deposit box and a mini bar in the room (we utilised their fridge!) and lots of space in the wardrobe for clothes, suitcases etc, they also had a TV with a few english speaking channels.
They cleaned our room everyday too, which was really great. When I arrived I was a bit sceptical about the 'do not flush toilet paper' thing in the bathroom (but that is literally all across greece, there's no escaping that!) but the fact that they cleaned the bathroom every single day and changed the bins it didn't bother me at all.
We had a 1 day cruise the next day (the Hyrdra, Poros and Egina trip, we highly recommend it!) and as we'd paid for B&B we asked at the front desk if we could have breakfast a little earlier the next day at 6.30 (instead of the 7-10 buffet window which they usually provide) and they were more than happy to oblige and gave me and my boyfriend a little packed lunch to take with us on our trip.
The buffet breakfast food was great, they always had a great range of hot and cold food, and as a vegetarian they had lots of great options like scrambled egg, toast, yoghurt etc. They had lots of fruit, bread, croissants, honey, and ham, turkey, sausages, bacon, the coffee was good (just from a machine) and they had fresh orange juice.
We ate in one evening in the hotel too (I recommend the veggie burger if you're hungry! It's HUGE!) The food we had was lovely, prices were reasonable and the waitress was so helpful and friendly.
There's also a fantastic little restaurant across the street (literally opposite the hotel, you can see it from the breakfast room) where we had a massive amount of great food, and a litre of wine straight from the barrel for 6 euros.
Anyway all in all, a wonderful stay! We couldn't have been happier with the service, the cleanliness, the staff and the food! The only thing out of their control was the location, which still wasn't as bad as I'd expected and you can very cheaply avoid walking around late at night!
Athens was completely wonderful too! (A great time to travel to avoid the heat and the crowds!)
Thanks again Athens Lotus we'll definitely stay here again!

My wife and I stayed here for a 2-day city break. It is easy to review, because everything about the hotel and staff was nigh perfect. If fault has to be found, I can say that the coffee at the breakfast was not the best.
Others have commented adversely about the neighbourhood. It was not as bad as we had feared, and we had our evening meals in the Barelia Taverna, immediately adjacent to the Lotus. This unlikely-looking place was first-rate, and provided a genuine feel of Greece. There was also a good market in Chiou Street (on Wednesday).

Conveniently reaching the hotel by metro, at first we were dismayed by the neighborhood, in which the beautiful renovated hotel stands out like a pearl in a broken display case! But the comfortable hotel and superb, helpful, friendly staff made our stay, helping book day trips, giving us directions for getting around Athens and general charm. The room was sparkling clean - and cleaned every day (not every hotel does that...), the breakfast generous and the location proved excellent: walking distance to many attractions and the metro next door. Yes there's a construction site next door but the works didn't wake us because the windows are double-glazed. The open-air market on Wednesday is charming. (And check out the taverna across the street.) If I have a comment - it's that the bathroom is dark. We will be returning!

My 3 grown up daughters and I have just spent 3 nights at this hotel. We had a family suite which consisted of 2 double rooms accessed through a main door leading to a private corridor. This meant that we could leave both room doors open as it was totally private. This would be ideal for parents travelling with younger children. The hotel itself is very clean and comfortable and the staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The buffet breakfast was better than most continental buffets and you could have as much as you wanted. I wouldn't hesitate to use this hotel again and would recommend it to others looking for a smaller, more intimate hotel.

The hotel is very nice with a good choice of breakfast buffet, the front office staff is hlepfull and courteous always trying to help. It is located very close to Metaxurgio metro station just 50 m away, the area itself is not very wellcoming, but you can avoid it using the metro, so I dont think it is a big problem. I you want to come back to the hotel at night on food you have to pass omonia and metaxurgio this are special places, so take good care at night, just be aware no more, if you do not want to risk, take the metro and that is all. I would recomend this hotel in recently reburfished and it has a good price, very good standards and close to all the atractions via metro. If you have the chance do not miss the market on the same street, fruits and vegetables but some clothes and good bargains also. every thursday i think from 8AM to 8PM

My wife and I have just spent four day in Athens, staying for three nights at the Athens Lotus Hotel. What a truly lovely little hotel, which has clearly been recently refurbished to a good specification. Everything was clean and comfortable and the room was well equipped. There is a nice dining room/ restaurant which serves good food/coffees etc at very reasonable prices. The breakfast is very adequate and the dining room has sufficient space to maintain comfort. The only thing we missed was tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
The hotel is close to Keriaskakis Square, which is not a very salubrious area, however we were able to come and go at any time of the day without feeling at all compromised, and it was very convenient for the Metro and within a short travelling distance of all attractions.
The staff were fabulous. English is spoken well by them all, and they are so friendly, welcoming and helpful. We found Sarina to be particularly helpful in directing us to good restaurants, whilst telling us that they were good, not cheap!!
All in all we could not have chosen a better hotel for our first brief visit to Athens and would recommend it to anyone.
