“Excellent hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

This modern hotel in the central Monastiraki area of Athens provided an excellent base for visiting the important archaeological sites as well as the surrounding areas of Plaka and Syntagma. There is a super roof terrace complete with loungers and a bar and from there you get amazing views of the Acropolis.
We chose a room with a view of Lykavitos Hill on the 8th floor which had a balcony, and was wonderful for relaxing on after a day sightseeing. Our room was spotless and cleaned every day with fresh towels provided daily too . Also, the metro station to and from the airport is just a short walk from the hotel which was a bonus!
Full marks to the staff who were very helpful and friendly and made us feel very welcome. They always had a cheerful smile at the ready.
Breakfast was quite substantial with a selection of cereals, fruit, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages, beans, bacon, choice of breads, toast, juices, teas, coffees.......just to mention a few. There was always something different. In the large reception area residents could help themselves to free coffee and biscuits at any time. A nice gesture I thought and one I haven't experienced anywhere else.
Some reviews mention the homelss drug addicts ouside the hotel. In actual fact they are on the walkway above the market/car park and are not a threat. One doesn't have to pass them at any time. I was aware of them when I looked from my balcony but that was the only time I saw them. I didn't feel intimidated or threatened at all and found the area safe .
There was a fresh fruit and veg market in the street outside the hotel , with a flea market and countless shops and restaurants within walking distance.
I have no criticism whatsoever about this hotel and if I return to Athens it would be my first choice. I highly recommend it
Thank you Athens Center Square Hotel!

Room Tip: If you are worried about the reviews re the homeless then choose a room with a view of the Acropolis...

We were at first put off by some of the reviews we had read about the area around the hotel, but since we wanted to stay in a different area of Athens on our second visit to the city, we decided to take a chance on the Athens Center Square because of the location. From the hotel, we were able to walk through an entirely different part of Athens and get a feel for a different neighborhood. We were not afraid to walk out at night and in fact, we loved the fruit and vegetable market across from our window. We live in a large, mediterranean city that boasts of its central fresh fruit and vegetable market so we felt right at home. It was fun to see the local population doing its regular shopping in the market. Across from the fruit and vegetable market is a small flea market where we found at least a dozen things we wished we could have taken home with us. Speaking of flea markets . . . within a 20 minute walk from the hotel, we were in the center of one of the largest flea markets we have ever seen. It was fascinating and we even went back a second time just to see what we missed the first time. There are many good restaurants in the area, again, within a 20 minute walk from the hotel. A bonus of the hotel is that from the roof garden you can see the Acropolis lit up at night. It was breathtaking, especially since we were there the night of a full moon. My only criticism is that although the bathroom was very modern and clean, there was not enough light for such a small room with dark tiles. The staff was, as described by other reviewers, remarkably patient and very, very helpful. We were not at all sorry we stayed at the Athens Center Square Hotel.

Room Tip: Since the rooms are not large, it was helpful to be on the street/market side of the building becaus...

Modern hotel in the Monastiraki area of Athens. The staff were welcoming, helpful and yet, unobtrusive. Our room, on the 8th floor, had superb views of the Acropolis, particularly when the Parthenon was lit up at night. Although minimilastic, the room had everything we needed - small fridge, comfortable bed and excellent shower. The room was cleaned every day ensuring a fresh and comfortable place to relax in. Many reviewers have commented on the location - next to the fruit and vegetable market and close to areas where there appeared to be "undesirables." Although the area was badly lit and full of graffiti, this was no different to many other areas of Athens and presented no problem. The hotel's location was, however, close to the restaurant and cafe area and only a short distance from all local transport. The busy, cosmopolitan area was a wonderful place to see all of the archeaological sites and museums and an excellent centre for shopping, eating and meeting local people. GO/CHAT tours, the hotel's recommended tour company, was excellent. Knowledgeable guides and pristine coaches provided us with opportunity to visit Delphi and Mycenae. Other trips were available - including two to four day excursions. We learned a great deal more about Greece's history and culture. To complete our visit, we would recommend Sun Transfer taxis. The firm provided an excellent service - even anticipating the delays caused by a protest march to make sure we got to the airport on time.

Room Tip: It is worth paying that little bit extra to get aroom with the stunning view of the Acropilis - part...

Spent a long weekend in this hotel and must say: it was a very pleasant stay. We, a group of 7 persons, arrived early while the staff was still busy cleaning the rooms. The receptionist did her very best to give us rooms on the same floor and brought this to a succes within a short time. For three nights we enjoyed the absolute clean rooms and good facilities. Great breakfast buffet, nice roofterrace (although the bar didn't open because of the wind). Living in Amsterdam we did feel safe in Athens all the time, even in the metro & stations.

We are currently at the Athens Center Square Hotel. We want three things at any place we stay: Clean, Quiet, and Safe. The room and lobby are spotless. With the window closed the room is quiet. Otherwise there are city noises. Athens is a city of two millions? For a large city this neighborhood is fine. We stayed out to 11 PM listening to a band. As we walked home we felt no discomfort. I find Chicago's loop more intimidating.

For the reviews that describe the area as seedy or frightening, they have obviously not been to large cities. Immediately n front of the hotel is a large fruit and vegetable market. If that scares you, stay home.

By the way, the shower is a nicely executed design.

Nothing against the hotel, they were great and I was really happy with the room and all of the provisions. It is clear that they just restored the hotel and it was really a quite pleasant stay. The only disadvantage was the neighborhood around the hotel which was to be frank a bit unsafe. Regardless, if you rely on taxis and dont walk to the hotel at night, you should be fine,

For a budget hotel this was of an excellent standard. Very clean & comfortable, & although my room was not large (single booking) it had all I needed. Fridge, tv, large shower, toiletries, hairdryer, view of the Acropolis too! One of the biggest plus points for me was the amount of usable sockets, there were 6 of them without having to unplug the tv, fridge or hairdryer, amazing! In this day & age, with cameras, phones, laptops etc all needing charging it was a very welcome consideration, I have stayed in some places where there was only one & everything had to be charged in shifts!
A bit too early in the year to spend much time on the rooftop, but I did go up for a while & enjoy the all round view.
The staff were among some of the best I've experienced, all 4 reception staff that I met or dealt with during my stay were helpful, friendly, even interested in how my day had been & what I'd done!
Breakfast is a great selection with some hot food, various breads/toast, yogurt & choice of toppings, cake, cheeses & meats, fruit, croissants, tea, coffee & juices among the choices.
Location: While I realise this is not for everyone I loved it & know it would be ideal for many. In the heart of the market, just off Athinas Street, you are right there among the day to day shopping & life of Athens. Noisy, busy, buzzing & real during the day, the area is almost empty at night. I did walk back to the hotel alone at various times of night (including 2am) & felt completely safe, something that may come easier to a repeat visitor or couple/group. Probably the best night's return was after Karnivali celebrations on the Sunday night, by then it was the early hours of Monday (Clean Monday) & the whole area was lit up, with the fish market in full swing, several of the nearby shops, the local souvlaki places & some fruit & veg stalls, magical! I sat & enjoyed a beer & watched lots of people shopping :)
For transport the hotel is equidistant to 3 metro stations, Monastiraki, Omonia & Panepistimou.
This is most definitely on my list of places to stay again, brilliant!
