Gallery Demeter is a great place to shop for sculpture, ceramics and jewelry while you are in the Plaka area of Athens. It is run by Savas Zoidis, a former bike racer who won several races in and around Athens in the 1970's. He now runs this quaint shop on Vyronos Street with creaky wood floors and a cat that spends his day sleeping at the foot of the larger sculptures. He is located a block away from the Acropolis on the South end. His taste in picking out objects for his gallery is very nice and tasteful. On top of it all he is a nice man who is very accommodating. Along with the sculpture we bought from him, he shipped another large souvenir that we had purchased from a museum. He told us exactly when he would be shipping them and they arrived at our house within 2 weeks. He made us feel so at ease with the whole shipping procedure that we did not think or worry about the packages arriving safely at our home at all. In fact, he packed the boxes so well that it took me about a half hour to open them. The address of the Gallery Demeter is 8 Vyronos Str., Athens, located between the Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Definitely worth going to if you are interested in sculpture, ceramics or jewelry.
