“Pnyx-Filopappos Hill”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

This is a large park. It starts with a walk up hill past ruins. The walk to the top to see Filopappos Monument is not worth the walk. Look for Socrates Prison-cave a historic sight. There is small church near the top. You can view the Old National Observatory, not open to the public. BEST thing is the view of the Acropolis from the Pnyx ruin site. The BEST view of Athens and the Acropolis you will get.

“Incredible views and inspiring Biblical setting!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

Mars Hill or the Areopagus is admission free and boasts incredible views underneath the higher Acropolis of the city beneath. We brought our kindle and read from Acts 17:22-31 where the Apostle Paul delivered his famous address to the pagan Athenians of his day. The engraved plaque on the site contains the words of his famous sermon. Definitely worth your time as it's accessible immediately below the ticket office and main gate for the Acropolis!

“We Stood Where the Apostle Paul Stood on the Aeropagus!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Our tour guide informed us that Mars Hill is inappropriately named. Mars is the Roman God of War, and Ares was the Greek God of War. The Greeks call this hill the Aeropagus which translates to Ares's Bench. This was where the Greeks/Romans had their high court, and where Ares was tried for the murder of Poseidon's son. And this was also where the Apostle Paul was brought to answer questioning, and where he delivered his famous sermon introducing the Greeks to Christianity, about 20 years after Jesus's death.

When our tour guide told us all this background, we knew we had to climb this rock the next day and see it and the views for ourselves. It's a treacherous and slippery rocky climb, but worth it. Probably my favorite site in Athens!

“Where Apostle Paul preached.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

A very small hill, very easy access thru a stairway, stone steps are very slippery, also once on top ensure only running shoes are best.

Great place to end your day, as the sunsets. However is very rocky and slippery on top so watch your step.
