“Perfect budget hotel in Athens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

This hotel is a great place to stay for a short visit of Athens. The staff is very polite and helpful and of course knowledgeable of all the sites/attractions. The location is very nice as you can walk to the Acropolis and there are restaurants nearby. You generally feel safe in the area even at night. If you wish it is a short walk to the Plaka district for a more fast-paced atmosphere. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Visited Sept. 2011

Room Tip: I don't think there are bad rooms but we chose the "deluxe" version with A/C. All of...

Hotel Tony is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. It offers modern rooms and very comfortable accommodations with much needed air conditioning in the summer. Tony and his son (who's name escapes me) were amazing and answered any questions that we had. The hotel is within walking distance of many attractions, including the Acropolis. There are also many restaurants within a 1-2 minute walking distance.

It was a little tricky finding our way from the subway stop to the hotel. I would very much recommend a taxi from the airport to the hotel, which I believe would cost between 20-30 euro. The subway can get quite packed and pick pocketing is a major concern now that the Greek economy is in the dumper. A normal looking 50 year old lady attempted to pick pocket me as I exited the subway train.

Overall, I would stay here again.

This is a great hotel in a nice location. The hotel was recommended to us by friends and we weren't disappointed. Tony and his son were both very nice and helpful. Tony greeted us and gave us a map and recommended several good places to eat. We arrived in Athens by bus and when we had a concern about our bus ride back, he happily called the agency to confirm our travel arrangement and also arranged a taxi to pick us up. The room was nice and clean. We were in the "garden level", which meant we didn't really have a view, but we didn't mind because there was still enough natural light that it doesn't feel like you're in the basement. It has been recently renovated and they did an excellent job. The location was great too, because it was in a safe area away from some of the main tourist/hotel areas but still close enough to walk to any of the main attractions. Excellent hotel for a great price! I highly recommend Hotel Tony.

After reading brilliant reviews on Tripadvisor I had booked this family-run hotel. It was in a safe neighbourhood close to the Acropolis (I had purposely avoided Plaka as that was where the unrest had occurred previously).
We couldn't believe our luck when we were shown to our room at Hotel Tony. As a family of two adults and two teenagers, ‘Uncle Tony’ as we called him amongst ourselves (he was so friendly, with a large personality and a smile to match) proudly showed us to our room, which he had just finished renovating three weeks previously. The room was absolutely fantastic. It was beautifully decorated. It was so spacious, with our bed in a separate area to the kids’ beds, making it feel more like a two bedroom unit.
The bathroom was to die for - pure luxury. The shower ran the length of the wall, maybe almost two metres, with a rain shower head and the toilet was like a throne. Gorgeous! The air conditioning units were fabulous too, which as we were visiting in the middle of July, we were very grateful for. The rooms were cooled beautifully. We felt spoilt.
Tony gave us great advice on where to go and not to go, and he booked us in to what was, in his opinion, the best restaurant with the best view of the Acropolis in town - Strofi only two blocks away. While there, we were spellbound and the traditional Greek fare was mouth-watering. As the sun faded and the Acropolis was lit up, the view became almost magical. WE certainly concurred with Tony's opinion. After an hour or so Tony popped his head in to make sure we had found the restaurant okay. How many hoteliers would do that in this day and age?
We had only been in Greece for a couple of hours, but as we soaked up the atmosphere, we were already in love with the place.
Tony and his son are great ambassadors for their country, and Tony is just one of those people who belongs in the hospitality profession, he’s a natural.
The cost of the room was extremely reasonable, especially considering the quality of the room we stayed in. We will and have already recommended this hotel to others and we hope we will get to come back and stay with Tony again one day.
If you are planning to spend all day in a hotel's swimming pool while in Athens, then this is not for you, as there is no pool. But if you are going to see the sights and just want somewhere nice with air conditioning to lay your head down, then you can't go past Hotel Tony.

Room Tip: If travelling as a famiily, ask for the room in the main building just newly renovated last June - y...

We arrived at Hotel Tony on Christmas day. It was an easy ride on the metro from the airport with only one transfer. Tony had a sign on the door for us telling us how to find him. His son welcomed us, gave us a map and made dinner reservations for us at nearby Strofi's, which was excellent. Our apartment was spacious complete with hot water pot, dishes, bowls, silverware, glasses, fridge and microwave. The bathroom was modern with excellent shower. We even had a little balcony where we enjoyed our coffee in the mornings. Tony helped us find everything we wanted to see and even gave us good ideas to add to our trip. We could not be happier. The only thing that could have made this better was a softer mattress with box springs. The beds here were very firm. The location of Hotel Tony is 10 minute walk to line 2 of the metro, same time to entrance of Acropolis and the Grand Promenade.

Room Tip: There is no swimming pool---my mistake.

Hotel Tony is close enough to a number of major sights in Athens as well as the Metro. The major drawbacks for me was the lack of written fluency in English which resulted in confused taxi transfers from the port Marina Zea despite the provision of detailed maps and communications. The new wing of the hotel which is supposed to be quieter is quite impressive with its environmentally friendly sensor common area lighting. However, being on a slope with steps up to the foyer is hard work for a less sturdy person with full luggage. Don't get me wrong - the hotel was ready enough to help.

The room I had was equipped with a kettle and some basic 'crockery' and cutlery. This would be useful for a longer stay and guests with children. The TV reception seemed to be alright and I was able to get some international news in English.

Room Tip: Good for longer stays as rooms equipped with kettle and cutlery. Showers are not enclosed in a smal...

Stayed there in November with family. Room was big and the shower in the bathroom was especially nice.

When we arrived from the airport the taxi driver was unable to get to the hotel because there was a farmer's market right in front of the street where the hotel is located. We were told that they have the market every 10 days. We visited the market immediately after check in and had fun browsing the stalls and buying fruits and nuts for our stay in the hotel. Fruits were fresh and price was reasonable.

Location of the hotel was good as it is near to the Acropolis but be prepared walk up some steep hills along the way.

Overall, a nice place to stay and nearby to most of the tourist sites.
