“Lovely beachside hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

We have just stayed 7 nights in this beautiful hotel. 3 of the nights in a Deluxe Double Room and 4 nights in a Garden Pool Villa. A very nice touch of the hotel to offer a free upgrade and the Garden Pool Villa is totally worth upgrading for. I believe it even has a larger pool than the more expensive Pool Villas.

The hotel is located at the end of Choeng Mon beach which wins hands down compared to Chaweng. It is a white sandy beach, bay shaped. Outside the hotel, in walking distance, is plenty of restaurants offering tasty and very cheap thai food.

We loved the staff at this hotel. The guys working at the beach went out of their way to do everything for you, serving water and fruits all day. We had "our" beach sunbeds made up for us prior to arriving at the beach, very very appreciated!

The gym is better than usual hotel gyms and is free of charge. I usually don't work out during my holidays but did during this trip and the Sala gym was great with a variety of machines to use.

The breakfast selection is both buffestyle and a la carte and you can mix. Very tasty and I already miss my Egg Benedict and omelet and the very fresh Mango Lassie.

I usually want to get out of the hotel and explore during my trips but Sala is a relaxing place and we had most of our lunches at the hotel on the beach.

The staff was as mentioned very friendly and you could tell that they were happy and enjoyed their job (which we were told by several of the staff). A special thanks to NES at the restaurant who served us for some of our dinners and made us laugh a lot. BOY at the beach who made up our sunbeds and was always smiling.

There are two pools and we mainly used the black pool which was the adult pool (most of the times). The white pool is located by the restaurant which is a disadvantage. The hotel is more couples orientated and we didn't like having splashing kids 1 m away when having lunch.

Oh I almost forgot. They have a fantastic SPA. We had booked the spa package which included 5 1/2 hrs of treatment divided in three occasions. I usually fell a sleep thanks to BEE's talent. Massage is cheap in Thailand at the beach, but you certainly get what you pay for and you really can't compare getting a massage by the beach to a real SPA. It is worth to book the spa package prior to arrival, a lot cheaper than paying each treatment when there.

We will gladly return to this cosy and friendly hotel.

Watch out when getting up from your private pool. It is very slippery and I fell and hurt my leg quite a bit.

Room Tip: A garden pool villa is definately worth it!

We booked the standard balcony room for the last 3 days of our trip to Thailand.
Prior to that we stayed in Koh Phangan in a room with a private pool so we wanted to upgrade our room at Sala Samui to a room with a private pool as well.
When we got to the reception, without any request, they gave us a complementary upgrade to a garden pool villa, which was great and totally enhanced our stay there! Love to get upgrades in hotels!
The weather during our stay was not very nice so we did not enjoy the private pool so much, but still it was great.

The room is not the most specious room, but it’s a decent size, the outdoor bathroom was great, very unusual experience.

Breakfast was awesome, one of the best we had in Thailand! Very good selection of ordinary and not ordinary food and the variety was changed daily so it was not boring. Service as the restaurant was great as well.
Also had lunch and dinner at the restaurants of the hotel. The food was good but it was too expensive and not a good value for money.

The only downside of the hotel is it’s a bit isolated. There are few restaurant around the hotel, so if you want a wide selection of restaurant you must take a ride to Chaweng beach – about 15 minutes by car. the hotel offers a car pool service at the evening to chaweng, a bit cheaper than taking a taxi.

We also took the cooking class they offer and we enjoyed it a lot!

The beach area was great, lots of sun loungers and a waiter came every few minutes with a complimentary cold water.

Overall we enjoyed our stay a lot, it’s truly a 5 star hotel!

Room Tip: Skip the balcony room, the rooms with the private pool are awsome!

Returning to SALA in February was just like coming home. A couple of years earlier we spent 10 wonderful days in the Garden Duplex with private pool, having the best of times. Our whole family was sad do leave.
Almost everything lived up to my expectations, and many things were improved. SALA Samui is a lovely resort in beautiful gardens and the best place to relax.
This time I stayed in a Deluxe Balcony room, once again overlooking the beautiful green garden with high palm trees. Thank You for the warm welcome and the bubbles, much appreciated! Spending evenings here, under the fan, on the huge daybed is pure magic.
This location is very calm as you don't have neighbors with pools on all 4 sides. The huge semi outdoor bathroom is on the first floor away from the mosquitos and creepy crawlies. You can relax in your own round SPA bathtub with a view to a kill, fantastic!

I was so impressed and happy about the new breakfast theme. Finding that the number one on my wish list, fresh juice and healthier choices, was implemented under the new management. Freshly squeezed vegetable juices, smoothies, fresh fruit and the best omelets and salads made me long for breakfast every evening. There is also a generous breakfast menu with eggs any style and a huge buffet with asian style breakfast and pastries to die for. I just cant see how anyone can complain about the selection here.

Pools still as wonderful as last time and the fantastic kind men working there going out of their way to help you find the best seat and reserve it for you every morning. Thank You!
I loved the fresh fruit and cold water, a small but nonetheless, great service.

Although the location of the restaurant is absolutely wonderful and first class, food is still a bit disappointing - sometimes a mismatch between western and Thai food.

Best drinks at the beach bar, and fantastic breezy evenings here, wind in the palms and lamps and mesmerizing live music. Big sign on my door "sorry, in paradise, not likely to return"

PS. Wishlist for next time. The resort and room is clearly showing signs of wear and tear, time for an update.. A private and cool gym. New water or clear water or what ever water it takes to make the beautiful ponds at reception and the black pool clean again. The restaurant waiting staff, with exceptions of course, seemed a bit bored and unsmiling this time.

Room Tip: I just love the beautiful garden area, very quiet, if you choose rooms a way from the road and taxi...

Dear Pia E,

Thank you very much for your positive review on Tripadvisor, and we are delighted to read that you appreciated the improvements since your last visit.

With regards to the rooms, we have a rotating system, where rooms are constantly beeing renovated. We take them out every 3-4 years for a complete renovation, and they are after that "touched up" on an average every 3-4 months.

Of the other things on your wish list, we are making improvemts in the gym, and in some other areas that are not on your wish list ....

Kind regards and looking forwards to welcoming you back !

Chose this over the Six Sense as didn't want to be stuck in a resort, glad we did, we could walk down the beach for simple food or pop out the back for 5 quid massages whenever we fancied. The hotel was AMAZING - we had a normal twin room with a balcony (only sad thing is that you can't see the sea). Gym was excellent - massive surprise as I usually find hotel gyms wanting to say the least. Staff all fantastic esp. beach bar guys, totally relaxed about us buying fruit and food from the beach sellers and then eating it by the pool, loved that. Admittedly we did give the hotel plenty of our business too and loved their cocktails and beach food which was all reasonably priced. Breakfast was perfect, brilliant blend of european and thai goodies. Apart from the cheapy massages we had in the shop round the back we also tried the hotel's spa for the ambiance of it, no regrets there, loved the scented water and flowers beneath the head rest and the beautiful spa rooms. However, I reckon the spas in these hotels should be cheaper given what's on offer just outside. Overall though I absolutely loved this hotel, can't quite put my finger on why but is one I will go back to any time I am in Samui.

Room Tip: We had a basic twin room - loved it but no sea views at all in case you were hoping for that.

This is our favorite place in the world to visit and relax ..bar none..!!

We just returned for 14 days, (first 2 weeks in July).. Our fifth visit, It was like returning home to our own special thai family. -Oom (especially.. We adore her..) Noey, Aor, O, Amanda and the rest of the amazing caring, friendly team ..too many to mention here by name. You all are amazing and put smiles on our faces whenever we think of you from afar. We miss you and cannot wait to return again soon. Needless to say.. Your Service in all areas is fantastic. Please tip these fabulous people extra well they do a great job..

We work out of 5 star hotels world wide, so when it comes to vacations we want that little extra something unique, non sterile and special. Sala provides all this and so much more. There is something very special about this beautiful place that is hard to put into words. We have tried other top rated resorts in Thailand, but its Sala we love to return to and rate most highly by a large margin.

We cannot fault our last visit, everything was absolutely perfect.
...Except maybe the loud splashing kids at the pool..which kept us in our pool villa more than we usually do. Sorry.. but we do not think Sala Samui is an ideal place for kids.... and this was a common conversation between couples at Happy Hour.

So what do we love about this special part of paradise that others haven't already mentioned again and again? " Everything!!"

Our Pool Villa, -private, serene, calming, clean minimalistic decor, comfortable bed, perfect private pool. Outdoor bathroom which makes me think we are glam camping .. In the most wonderful way!

The food and the restaurant and beach bar -always great. A big plus since our last visit has to be the fresh vegetable juices you can order for breakfast, not many places give you beetroot and ginger juice with your latte each morning or fresh watermelon juice, two for one at Happy Hour. Actually there are 3 hours of 2 for 1 Happy hours, and the drinks are the best value on the beach..

The Beach -It is beautiful and is its own fabulous community, from the great beach massage ladies (who have been there for as long as we have been coming to Sala, since 06 at least, mostly from the same family.. You can find them just outside Sala, ) to the other restaurants and bars that line it. Sala Samui and Its beach have a very special feel, calmness and friendliness to them that we have not found elsewhere in Thailand.
Beach and pool recliners are clean and comfortable.

The Spa -service is fantastic and while we enjoy the cheap massages on the beach, it is true that you get what you pay for at this spa as well and prices are still cheap compared to other countries and hotels.

Sax on The Beach on Sunday nights.. -A very memorable way to spend the evening and a most welcome addition.
Live music at night.. -Lovely.
Thai buffet night - Always a favorite.

Location -is ideal, Its in a quiet area of Koh Samui, yet a short taxi trip to Chewang for nightlife or Fisherman's Wharf restaurants and Friday night markets and reasonably close to The Airport.

Sala to us is simply a wonderful special place. We know others will Love it as much as we do. We cannot wait to return again as soon as we can.

Room Tip: Private Pool or Garden Villas are fabulous. For those on a tighter budget Deluxe Balcony Rooms look...

Dear Mr & Ms....-sorry, I mean signature "Luvin-Life+Travel" !

Thank you very much for your fantastic review ! Happy you enjoyed it, and regarding the children...well, we are not a "family resort", but in school holiday periods we do have some children, but normally there is no major "conflicts", as we make the black lap pool area for adults only, whereby you can choose if you want the company of children or not,

We are loooking forwards to welcoming you back !

We had never visited Thailand and were looking forward to rest and relaxation in the sun. We were not disappointed. Sala Samui is a lovely resort set in beautiful gardens. We especially enjoyed relaxing round the black pool which is mainly used by adults, the children's pool is set apart which means they can have fun without worrying about being too noisy- a great idea I think.
Staff are friendly and the Spa is well worth a visit for a facial and back massage. Great massage huts on the beach too and much cheaper but its good to spoil yourself too. Some great little restaurants in Choeng Mon for lunch and dinner are worth the visit as is Bophut for some good dining. Garden pool villa great and loved the concept of the outdoor bathroom.

Have just returned from a ten night stay in Sala Samui as part of our honeymoon. I have to say it was the best hotel experience I have ever had!
We stayed in a garden pool room where we had our own very private pool in a private garden.
The rooms were very spacious and was a real experience to have your shower bath and toilet outside, covered by retractable canvas cover.
The staff in the hotel were all extremely friendly and helpful and could not do enough for you.
The food was delicious some of the finest I have eaten. Breakfast was so good in the morning amazing choice of fruits, pastries, salads, cooked breakfast, smoothies. We ate there most lunch times also and again the selection and quality of food was superb!
We ate dinner their three nights and every meal was lovely.
The location of the hotel was good, midway between bustling Chaweng and the beautiful Fishermans Village where we ate most evenings - huge choice of restaurants!
As others had mentioned the water directly in front of the hotel was a little rocky underfoot. Not too much of an issue really, 10s walk to the right bring you onto soft white sands again!
Overall I would highly recommend Sala Samui - an unforgettable experience!
