“Perfect Honeymoon location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2011

We are currently staying at the Sala Samui Resort, although we leave early tomorrow morning. We have had a fantastic time and would love to stay here for ever! The resort itself is very peaceful and relaxing, just what you need after spending almost a year organising a wedding!! The rooms are beautiful and supply all that you could want or need, although I would have like a mirror in the bedroom to do hair and make up etc without having to use the unairconditioned bathroom as the bedrooms offer a welcome airconfotioned break from the warmth of the weather here. Our room was cleaned everyday without fail and was turned down each evening with a little bag of traditional Thai sweeties to wish you
a good night.

The Resort is perfectly located and they offer a taxi service that is no more expensive than if you were to try and flag down youown taxi! The resort is righton thebesch with two beautiful pools that are great way to cool down. The sea though is likes bath!! Not great for cooling down but still fab!!!

The staff of the resort are amazing and I would particulary like to make you aware of a gentleman that works at the beach bar. His name is K1. He has made out honeymoon so special and helped us discover so much more about the country than we ever could on our own! He is a great and we shall miss him lots. Thank you K1 for making the holiday so special.

So much more to say but too much to write on here, just know that should you book your holiday/ honeymoon here you shall not be disappointed!!!!!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2011

My family and I travelled to Sala Samui to celebrate my son and his wife's third wedding anniversary. Our group totaled six people and included a grandmother who was 60 years old and a baby who was 8 months old.
When we arrived we were met with cold drinks at check in, and there was a bowl of fresh fruit in each room. Each room also had a television, telephone, internet access, and refrigerator stocked with drinks.
My son and his wife and baby were in a lovely, enclosed villa which included a private swimming pool where the water was constantly flowing. The bathroom for the villa was not air conditioned, but was airy and large. There was also a large roofed daybed and lounge chairs beside the villa's pool. Be sure to take mosquito repellant. The mosquitoes did not bother me, but they did bother by daughter in law. The resort does spray for mosquitoes each evening.
I was in an upstairs room with a lovely porch, open on one side, with a lounging bed and overhead fan. The bedroom was large, and about the same sized as the open porch. The full bath was big with a large bowl shaped bathtub and an overhead shower. The bedroom itself was airconditioned, but not the bathroom, or the porch. The porch had curtains which could be lowered if it was rainy. The rooms were very clean and pleasant.
The front desk was quick to find transportation into town for us for a visit to the interesting evening market even though it was a large group of six people including a baby and babystroller.
There were two beautiful pools available by the beach. The pool beside the restaurant was lighted and extremely beautiful at night during dinner. It featured a roofed children's pool. The large black granite pool by the spa had water that was constantly flowing over the edges like a fountain. It was a joy to swim in. Extra towels were available between the two pools. My daughter in law spent a half hour in the spa and enjoyed it very much.
The white sandy beach was beautiful. I ventured to the waters edge, but there were uneven rocks in the water beyond the beach, so I did not go in since I did not have shoes on to keep from hurting my feet on the rocks. The lounges and umbrellas on the beach were well maintained. It was a great place to suntan, relax, talk, and read a book.
The restaurant at the resort was excellent. Breakfast was included with our reservations, and I highly recommend it. It was a buffet breakfast with many selections, lots of fresh fruit, and a cook who would cook an omelet anyway you wanted it.
The friendly people who worked at the resort were very helpful and concerned that our stay went well, whether we were at the pools and spa, in the resaurant, at the beach,, or in our rooms. Our group as a whole, with our varied ages, enjoyed the resort.

Room Tip: I prefer the upstairs room for the evening breeze.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2011

We stayed at Sala at the end of May and had very mixed feelings about the place. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels within Thailand and Asia and unfortunatly it isnt up there with the best. We arrived at reception surrounded by work being carried out on the pool that surrounds reception and it was just a mud bath that was worked on every day throughout our stay , staff emptying buckets of mud from the pool. This didnt create a nice relaxing first impression. We where not offered the free upgrade or gift offered by booking through Splendia, we where told there where no rooms available yet we passed many empty rooms every day of our stay and the driver who picked us up from the airport told us the hotel was 80% full. I have contacted Splendia regarding this, we later stayed at another 5 star hotel during this holiday where i booked through Small Luxury Hotels and was given the complimentry upgrade. The room felt dated and the plastic roof on the bathroom didnt look very nice, it was little things like stains on the curtains and weathered wood on fittings, the bath didnt drain away properly and was stained. The grounds where lovley and really nice to walk around and we loved the pool areas but unfortunatly the beach bar was being re build and building work going on all throughout our stay so no nice relaxing beach bar available, again we where not informed of this in advance and it did affect our stay. the staff where so lovley at all times as they always seem to be in Thailand and the breakfast very nice. The beach area is nice but the deralict land to the side of Sala wasnt nice to look at and the sheets of corrugated metal an eye sore. So overall Sala didnt meet our expectations and does have lots of areas to improve on , it could be an exeptional hotel but is ready for some upgrading on the deluxe rooms , i cant comment on the other rooms of course.

The feedback that you have provided on your recent stay at SALA Samui Resort and Spa is most appreciated. Thank you! I am indeed sorry however that you felt your holiday with us was a mixed bag and did not meet your expectations.
I acknowledge the work being carried out in reception upon arrival would not have given a welcoming first impression but unfortunately urgent repairs, caused due to a major leak in our lotus pool, could not be avoided. We attended to this matter quickly and with no disruption to normal services. I apologise for the inconvenience that it caused you.
You correctly stated that resort occupancy was in excess of 80% (and on some days over 90%) throughout your stay with us. Unfortunately no villas of a category higher than what you were staying in were available. A room appearing vacant does not necessarily mean that it is not being prepared for guest arrival later that day, or the following day and although we would of certainly have extended a complimentary upgrade to you as a Splendia client , this was just not possible.
Thank you for the candid remarks regarding the condition of your room. These have been noted and reviewed with the team here. Upgrading of the wood work and fittings in our rooms and villas is an ongoing part of resort maintenance. The new roof to our beach bar typifies the improvements we are constantly making to resort facilities and although this work took only a few days to complete, it was a disruption to the usually tranquil and relaxing environment. There is never a perfectly ideal time to do small jobs like this yet we do endeavour to schedule such work with as little impact on guests enjoyment of the resort as possible.
At our expense we are about to construct a fence in front of the vacant land to the left of our resort as I agree the rusting sheets of corrugated iron, that the owners of this property have erected, do not look nice when viewed from the water.
Thank you for such gracious comments about the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. They do indeed try very hard to ensure that all our valued guests have an enjoyable holiday experience with us.

We are currently staying in one of the Sala pool villas, having arrived Tuesday afternoon.
Our initial impressions were very good and things only got better when we were taken to our private villa and pool. They seemed to have thought of everything from toothbrushes to umbrellas, it has all been finished to a very high standard.
So far, we have had two very relaxing days spent inside the resort. Day one at the "White" pool - very stylish infinity pool with great areas to relax in the water or in the shade. Day two at the "black" pool - stunning infinity pool surrounded by a pond with lotuses and fish, all of which makes for some fantastic photographs (to be added soon).
All our meals have been in the Sala restaurant which I can not fault fir service, quality and quantity (I have no idea what some of the other reviewers could possibly find fault with)
The staff without exception are some of the politest and curtious I have ever met (and we travel a lot!) - they are all a credit to the management.

In summary, this is a fantastic resort in a stunning location and has so far been the perfect start to our honeymoon.

We are treating ourselves to upgraded accommodation as of the 13th - the presidential suite. Not cheap but we hope it will be worth it to give us a honeymoon we will remember.

We stayed in a Sala Pool Villa for 2 weeks in May.The hotel is situated on the north of Choeng mon beach. The beach infront of the hotel is nice, but as other people have said you have to walk 100m along to be able to access the water as it is too rocky. If you want to try pineapple or corn on the cob there is a guy that prepares them in the middle of the beach absolutely delicious.
The room was ok and the pool was lovely. The choice of tea/coffee making was poor as there was not enough sachets so we went to a local shop to buy milk and coffee. The bathroom is in need of attention, the bath needs renewing as does the sink. The outside rainshower was goodAlso the air-con unit was really noisy.Housekeeping was fine and there were fresh towels each day.
The turndown was rather too early say 7pm as you were preparing to go out.
I feel that the breakfast could do with some attention. The single toaster is obviously not sufficient for the volume of people, the a la carte menu is limited as were the size of the meals. It would be better if there was more choice. We stayed at the Centara Grand on Chaweng last year and the breakfast was different class. It felt that we were on a health farm. The meals beside the pool area were tasty but the room service menu was poor in that there was not enough variety.
The staff around the hotel were excellent, big thanks to Chai, who looked after us beside the pool area.I think the massage was way overpriced,I had an oil massage on the beach for 300baht, good value.
I think that the hotel is in a fantastic place but it would benefit from an all inclusive policy where by people would mix as the drinks are very expensive and any decent restaurants are either in Chaweng or Bophut where you should try the Happy Elephant or Starfish. The taxi is only 300baht.
We would return again but only if the there were the changes I've outlined.

Room Tip: The pool villa is the best room .

Thank you for your review of SALA Samui Resort and Spa. Your comments are most appreciated and in particular the feedback on evening turn down service has been noted and discussed with our Housekeeping Team. We certainly endeavour to provide this service at a time that is convenient to our guests. Our breakfast a la carte offering, both in terms of selection and portion size, has now been addressed by our Executive Chef and we aim to improve our menu even further over the coming weeks. Thank you for your gracious comments about our staff and in particular our pool attendants. These will certainly be passed on. I do hope that you will be able to visit us again in the future as we look forward to welcoming you back to our resort.
