“Sun, sea, sand and lots of time to relax!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

We've just returned home having spent 2 weeks in Thailand. The last 10 nights were spent at the Imperial Boat House on Ko Samui. We had a fantastic time! The resort is beautiful - a relatively small bay with beautiful white sand and warm seas. BBQ's on the beach every lunchtime, cocktail bars a plenty and Thai massages available at every corner.

The Imperial Boathouse is central to Choeng Mon and has a long estate that stretches from the main road to the beach. We had a standard room towards the back of the estate, which was perfect in size and on the third floor. We were a little worried when we arrived as our room backed on to the main road, but we never heard any noise from the local residents or road.

The staff at the Boathouse were all amazing and made sure we were made to feel welcome. When we arrived, we were decorated with floral garlands and escorted to our room where a cake and bottle of champagne were awaiting to help us celebrate our wedding anniversary.

The breakfast was good - not as good as the food we had in Bangkok, but still very nice. The only disappointment was the pastries and cakes, which were a little dry and weren't very often alternated.

The facilities onsite are fantastic - the pools are beautiful, the pool bar serves a great choice of food and drink (the pina colada is awesome), the massages are brilliant and even the night entertainment (if you are into that sort of thing) is really good. All in all we had a great time.

The only disappointing factor of our stay here was the condition of our room. When we arrived, the air con wasn't working and in fact we had to ask a couple of times for it to be fixed. The room looked very tired, particularly the bathroom. Be careful when using the shower as the water runs down the length of the bath and then hits the floor causing flooding! We spent every 30 seconds of a shower sweeping water back into the bath!

If you want to explore, it is only a 5-10 min taxi ride to the chaotic Chaweng (approx. 300 baht), which is an experience in itself. If you want to stay close to home, Choeng Mon has a great selection of bars and restaurants, which are all very reasonably priced and serve delicious food. On Wednesday night the town has a night market - we strongly recommend you attend and eat from the local food stalls.

All in all we had a great time in Samui and at the Boathouse. We would recommend.

Room Tip: The higher up you are, the less likely you are to get attacked by mosquitoes! Although, the best pla...

Good hotel, good beach (busy at that time of year).
Location was a bit remote for me, we had to get local taxis to the main area which took around 15minutes and cost about £10 each way. Beware of the taxi drivers though, they will over charge, you have to haggle.
There are a few things to do in the area of Choeng Mon. Mini golf - is ok. Football Golf - not worth the bother or the money! You will get bitten to shreds!
Plenty of restaurants to choose from and some local bars with good cocktail deals. The hotels' spa is expensive. You are better going down to the beach and taking massages from the beach as the ladies are much friendlier and less expensive.
The rooms were very clean and maid service was good.
Breakfast was alright, was the same every day but good quality, plenty of fresh fruit and will cook to your specification i.e eggs/omlettes.

Dear Pixietrip,

Many thanks for taking the time to write your nice review. Assuming that by the main area you're referring to Chaweng, I trust you took the taxis at different times than our complimentary shuttle bus to that area, yet fully agree that haggling can save you several Baht when taking taxis.
I'm happy to read you enjoyed the local culinary scene and understand that the spa can be perceived more expensive than the local massage operators on the beach, which is why we have a cheaper in-house massage down by the beach as an alternative for those who are just looking for a regular massage rather than a tranquil spa experience. On behalf of the staff, thank you for staying with us and best wishes.

Yours,

Doeke

This is our 3rd stay at the Boathouse thoroughly enjoyed it again. The staff are wonderful nothing is too much trouble Doeke keep up the good work,The superior rooms could do with a renovation which are hopefully in the plans for the future. The Premier rooms are well designed and spacious worth the extra expense for your stay. The breakfasts are lovely plenty of choice and variety.
The dogs which roam about the hotel aren't a problem to us but to some guests it may be.
Wonderful location with great staff credit to the manager visited the sister hotel on the shuttle bus but prefer the hotel in Choengmon.

Room Tip: Stay in a premier room worth the extra expense

Dear Mrs. Choengmon,

Thank you so much for coming back again for your 3rd stay! We'll keep up the good work and are happy that you prefer our resort over our sister property in Chaweng Noi :). We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future and wish you the very best from all of us.

We have just returned after 12N here and our 3rd visit to Koh Samui. Having previously stayed at Chaweng, we will be definitely returning to Imperial Boat House in the future. As others have said, this resort has everything for the guest. The staff are amazing and we were continually greeted from dawn to dusk. Even the security chap at the gate watched out for traffic and blew his whistle as I crossed the road on my early morning runs! We stayed in a premier room and like others were most impressed with the space and facilities. The 2 loungers on our balcony were a bonus! The bathroom is superb with great water pressure. Our room was well cleaned every day by the smiling friendly ladies. The 2 pools/beach and relaxing areas with the sun loungers are perfect and the staff ran to put up the umbrellas for guests. Some even wanted to carry our towels to the loungers!
We are experienced travellers and never before have we stayed in such an idyllic spot being so well cared for. The breakfast buffet is impressive and good to see Doeke there enjoying the food while he worked on his PC, greeting guests as well! The air con gym is worth visiting too. Had many cycling sessions while watching the sport channel! The courtesy shuttle to Chaweng gives an option for a change of scenery but good to return to the peace of Cheong Mon.
The dog issue - they didn't bother us as there is always some guests happy to feed them and make a fuss of them. Of course the clever well fed dogs keep very close to their admirers and somehow understand different languages!
We look forward to returning to Imperial Boat House in the future and will definitely recommend to family and friends. Doeke, please pass on our appreciation to all your staff.

Julie

In general I criticize and rarely compliments but the boat house surprised me ! I stayed 7 days with my family, the staff is very nice and very available. the hotel is clean with a beautiful garden and a very nice swimming pool shaped like a boat. The rooms are spacious and clean. The beach is clean and gorgeous ! The water (the sea) is clear and warm! Just a tip: reading in the garden with birds or lazing on a sunbed and massage at the beach or canoe (free by the hotel), but caution to the wind that will take off. I liked the hospitality and professionalism of the hotel. The breakfast is varied and plentiful! There is something for everyone! I hope to go back but this time in the boat suites. Julie

We just returned from our 4th stay at The Imperial Boathouse and once again had a brilliant time. From check in 'til check out, it was pretty much the perfect holiday for us. The resort itself is still beautiful, the greenery, the pools and the beach are all stunning. Our room was nice and of a good size, with a really modern bathroom. The staff are a huge asset, particularly the breakfast and restaurant staff, who were super friendly, always up for a chat and seemed to take great pride in doing their job well. One wonderful lady even gave us a slice of her birthday cake. Doeke , please pass on our thanks to your crew, they were outstanding. And give Baw a pay rise, there is a man who loves his work!
Free wifi, courtesy buses to Chaweng and the sister resort in Chaweng Noi are a great bonus. Also enjoyed the couple singing in the front bar at night, they deserved a bit more of an audience, especially during happy hour lol.
The only improvement we could suggest would have been a flat screen tv in our room, but for the amount of tv we watched it wasn't even a hiccup.
Reading a couple of earlier reviews where some people had issues with the dogs and certain nationalities, I call shenanigans. I'm far from a dog person but there were 3 or 4 dogs roaming around and they were fine. Never felt threatened by them and they only time we heard them bark was at a beach vendor handing out muay thai pamphlets, pretty funny it was too. We were the only Australians at the resort at the time and to be honest, couldn't give two hoots where the other guests were from. As long as they were friendly, what does it matter?
We had another fantastic time here and have already decided to return next year with other family members.

Dear Andrew,

Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us yet again and the team and I are thrilled you had a brilliant time. Many thanks for your kind words towards the crew, especially Baw, which is indeed our greatest asset. Happy to see you enjoyed the facilities and the singing duo (who are currently on vacation till July 17th) and we'll try and get some more flatscreen TV's in in the near future. We're currently featured by 7 major travel agents in Australia, so we hope that you'll be able to see a few more countrymen on your next visit, when you bring your family with you next year. From all of us, warmest wishes.
