“Beautiful setting - very quiet, be prepared to drive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013 for a stay in December 2012

Stayed Dec 14th - Jan 3rd
We were met by the owner,Linda, which was much appreciated due to a flight delay & she had sorted our car rental which was already at the property. We completed the paperwork at the airport.
"Welcome" pack - tea, milk, cereal, bread, eggs etc (a beer would have really been great!)
The cottage is lovely, feels detached & very quiet.

Good points: Lots of space & on 2 levels with a balcony off the bedroom overlooking the sugar cane fields.
Well equipped bathroom & pool towels provided
Air con in bedroom, fan downstairs
Pool is close by, large & in beautiful gardens, sugar mill, birds, monkeys & distant views of the sea
Gardens are large & beautifully kept
Secure grounds with access via electric gates
Owner is close by if needed but does not intrude.Kindly invited us for drinks on Xmas Eve.
Guinness & Bobby - owners dogs - very sweet, miss you!
Exceptionally quiet - sit on the balcony at sunset and watch the fireflies
10-15 mins by car to supermarket , fast food outlet and Crane resort & beach
Reasonable crockery & cutlery, hob & fridge/microwave

Not so good points:
No loo roll on arrival!!
Cottage was clean but not spotless - the kitchen crockery needed washing before use as "mouldy"
Cooking utensils really do need replacing
The top bed cover was "stained" & although swapped with one from the sofa they were clearly quite old
Windows in both downstairs & upstairs french doors needed cleaning
Birds were nesting in our balcony light which was lovely BUT if we hadn't noticed & turned the light on it would have gone up in smoke along with the building!!
Could use an emergency first aid kit
Insuffient info in cottage - ie where do we put our rubbish? Would also benefit from a local "directions" book based on the owners experience & no's for a local taxi firm.
Needs a proper freezer, fridge is inadequate in the heat & a full cooker would be fab for those of us who like to cook.
Has a Safe- great, but is under the stairs in the dark - luckily I took a torch but still managed to bang my head!
Pool- is unheated, can be a little "brisk" & requires a little maintenance, ie The handrail at the steps is very loose
Weddings- This is a super place for a wedding BUT it is preferred that you do not use the pool when a wedding is taking place which was disappointing as on our first day we didn't really want to go out
Dogs- Guinness & Bobby - we loved you and you are excellent guard dogs but you bark too much at night ! Tricky one
Going out: If you want nightlife you are limited here, there is very little close by and driving can be a challenge, especially at night.

Overall: This is a truly beautiful setting & a lovely place to return to after the madness of the West Coast. If you are after a lovely quiet place, want to laze by the pool & are happy to drive when you fancy going out, it will suit you. Crane beach is 15 mins & there are lovely restaurants at the resort. Cutters restaurant is also close to The Crane. West Coast half an hour & good roads.
The surrounding countryside & the east coast is stunning
There is a good supermarket, bank etc @ six crossroads
This cottage is a gem and could be really, really fab with a little updating & we would be happy to pay more to stay there if that were the case.

Thank you for the review and the good things you say about Plantation View and Pollards Mill.
In response to the bad points, loo rolls are always placed in the accommodations and somehow this must have been overlooked apologies for this had I been asked I would have given a couple of loo rolls immediately!! A cold beer noted this is a good idea!. Noted about the crockery and this is something that we must keep an eye on obviously when the place is not used for a week or two the humidity causes problems. Everything is thoroughly cleaned before guests arrive so I am at a loss for these comments. The villa was only completed 2 years ago and everything was brand new at that time. Not a lot we can do about the birds nests they had been cleared out so obviously returned!! Very few pools in Barbados are heated, in the sumer it is like a sauna. The handrail has been repaired it was work in progress!
Instructions have been placed in the villa which include areas of interest to visit. There are also plenty of leaflets of attractions on the island.
Noted about the fridge and no cooker this is going to be addressed. The fridge will be replaced with a better freezer compartment.
As far as the weddings are concerned this was sprung on me on the day of the wedding and I had not had to ask people to leave the pool area before, this was just very unfortunate. I am having the pool screened so that guests can enjoy the pool even if a wedding is taking place.
As far as the dogs are concerned Guinness no longer lives here as I had realised he was proving to be a liability.
There is good nightlife on the South Coast, which is only 20 -25 minutes drive and the roads to the South Coast are very reasonable as part of the journey is along the highway, which is well lit.
Thank you for bringing these points to my attention, I would like to add that I do tell my guests I am here as I live here and will respond immediately to any problems or queries they may have.

“Thank you for a lovely week”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012 for a stay in July 2012

I stayed here for a week with my 3 teenage daughters. We stayed in the 3 bed villa near the main property which is where the owner lives. Linda, the owner, is lovely. She picked us up from the airport (no charge) and invited us the next day for a dinner party at her house with some of her friends. She cooked a lovely meal and we had a lively conversation which we only curtailed because of jet-lag. The property is set in gorgeous grounds with mature trees and exotic plants. It is accessed down a short dirt track and feels very safe. The bedrooms are comfortable and large and the ensuite bathrooms include huge wetrooms for the showers. It is well situated for the East Coast and the South Coast and there's a large supermarket 10 minutes drive away. Linda pre-booked a car rental agency and everything worked well. The only possible down side is that Linda is a dog lover and her dogs are very friendly and have a free run of the grounds which you may find off-putting if you are not quite so enthusiastic about dogs yourself. Actually my 3 girls love dogs so it was a bonus for them, but bear it in mind.
The kitchenette area is a bit cramped and there's no room for a washing machine. Also the fridge is a bit old and didn't have enough power to keep ice creams frozen in the freezer compartment. We mostly ate out anyway.
The value for money was much better here than the next week when we stayed on the West Coast, and I would say that Pollards Mill is ideally situated if you want a more peaceful break. There is also another rental property on the same site if two families wanted to stay at the same time (it was vacant during our week).
You definitely need a hire car though.
Thanks Linda for making our week so memorable.

Thank you for this very lovely review and I make it my business to welcome all the guests that come here as Pollards Mill is a very beautiful property.
In response to the comments about the fridge, this was only purchased 2 years ago and we have not had problems with the freezer part of it as it does get very cold. If I had been made aware steps would have been taken to sort this out.
One of the dogs the puppy has now been re homed so it is much more peaceful here now!!!

“Beautiful cottage in the Barbadian countryside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012 for a stay in February 2012

If you are looking for a tranquil and beautiful country retreat, then you will love Pollards Mill. Nestled amongst beautiful countryside in the parish of St Philip, Pollards Mill is the perfect place for people who don’t want to stay in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the South coast. I have stayed twice now at Plantation view, the beautifully furnished one bedroom unit at Pollards Mill, and I simply love it there. Everything you need for your stay is provided, linens, towels,a safe and a fully equipped kitchen. The downstairs is very comfortable and upstairs is too; my favourite bit is the verandah off the bedroom which provides fantastic views. Maid service is twice weekly but the maid was very friendly and always happy to come in if needed and bring clean towels etc.
Linda, the friendly owner of the property, lives in the grounds of Pollards Mill also, and will pick you up from the airport on arrival, supply basic grocery provisions for when you first arrive, and generally help out with advice on places to visit etc. Pollards Mill is in the country, and has a beautiful pool area and well maintained grounds, but I would strongly recommend hiring a car for those days when you want to venture further than the pool.
The property is only a 10-minute drive from Six Roads, where you will find a bank, post office, various stores and a large supermarket for your convenience. Pollards mill is also just 10-minute drive from quite a few stunning beaches, such as Foul Bay, Crane Beach, Bottom Bay and others, and I recommend visiting these. There are also a few great restaurants such as Cutters and Palms etc all within a ten-minute drive of Pollards Mill….just ask Linda for her recommendations.
In short, if you prefer a quiet countryside accommodation to a bustling hotel, yet want to be just a 20-minute drive from the activities of the south Coast/St Lawrence Gap area, then Pollards Mill will not disappoint!!

“Caribbean Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012 for a stay in January 2012

We stayed at Pollards Mill for 11 days in January 2012 and we loved it. Linda, the owner, met us at the airport, made us very welcome and looked after us extremely well throughout our stay. The property is well-appointed, clean and comfortable - the gardens are a delight and well-maintained. You definitely need to hire a car during your stay (Linda arranged ours for us before we arrived) as you are right out in the countryside surrounded by sugar cane yet only a 10 minute drive to the nearest shops/supermarket. The nearest beaches are Bottom Bay, Foul Bay (it isn't!) and Bathsheba - all very beautiful. The sea can be a little rough as they are on the Atlantic coast rather than the Caribbean but you have a lovely pool to swim in when you get back to base. We ate in a few times but also had some good food in Bathsheba (Atlantic Hotel and the Roundhouse), at the Crane resort and at a couple of local eateries but you must try Cutters for lunch - the best home-made burger and bread and the rum punch is a knock-out! This was our second trip to Barbados - the first time we stayed over on the West coast. When we come back we will be staying at Pollards.

Thank you for this lovely review and even though it is in Italian I am able to understand!! I am so glad that these guests who came all the way from Italy enjoyed my property so much. It was a pleasure to have them here and I believe they will return! I shall very much look forward to meeting them again. Everything they have said about Pollards Mill and Plantation View is exactly as it is!
