“Perfect for our family vacation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012 for a stay in June 2012

We had an extended family group. From my 85 year old uncle and 77 year old mother-in-law to my 6 & 8 year old kids. Nine of us stayed and every one of us loved this place. Wonderful house with plenty of space for all. Very clean and loved the decor and style. Amazing grounds! Beautiful! The pool was fantastic. We could not believe that all of this was just for us. Several stores nearby to purchase food as well. Kitchen was a little small but we easily made it work. The owner and rental agent were both amazing and so friendly.

The only negative was the noise from the metro train. But having the train so close also meant that it was a 30 second walk to the train stop. This made it so easy to go into Porto and our trip to/from Lisbon.

“Excellent base for extended adult travel in Northern Portugal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2011 for a stay in September 2011

We were a group of 8 adults from Toronto Canada. Myself, my wife, my two daughters and their partners, and the 2 mothers of my daughter's male partner's. We stayed the week of Sept 10 to Sept 17/11. We were celebrating my youngest daughter's graduation as a physiotherapist, with northern Portugal chosen as a destination due to its scenery, the Duruo wineries, historical Porto and the Port wine houses as well as nearby beaches.

This villa was perfect for our large group, being close to the airport, having easy access to the metro, as well as being big enough, with adequate amenities, to assure a comfortable stay. The exquisite gounds, gardens and private swimming pool were a pleasant bonus. As well, the gracious and elegant landlady, who lives next door, was very hospitable, unobtrusive, and extremely helpful, as was Victor, the grounds keeper.

The house is a treasure, with an ample living room area with fireplace and lots of available firewood, a large dining room with round table that accommodated our group with ease, and a well equipped kitchen, sufficient for gourmet cooking. There is also a kitchen table accommodating 6. Just outside the kitchen entrance door, there are 2 iron tables and 8 chairs for dining outside. A short distance away are the gardens and beautiful salt water pool, with adequate lawn chairs and cushions as well as a covered portico for shade and esape from rain if needed. There is a pool house with sink and shower, and a charcoal BBQ, as well as adequate cushions and woggles for the pool. It is very well kept, and we used the pool almost every day.

There is one single bedroom on the main floor, just off the kitchen. It has a three piece washroom just outside the door, and there is another 2 piece bathroom serving the main floor. There is a large foyer off the front door entrance, leading to a beautiful staircase to the second floor. On the second floor, there are three bedrooms, each with a double bed, and ensuite bathrooms. The first bedroom off the staricase has a separate walk in shower, and jacuzzi tub. The second double bedroom has a separate alcove, with 2 chairs and a dresser. Aside from the three double bedrooms, there is another bedroom with 2 singe beds also with an ensuite bathroom. There is also a small single bedroom on this floor, with no ensuite. Total of 5 bedrooms on this floor

Furnishings are comfortable, with many antiques, and built in drawers in the closets in the bedrooms. Many of windows have outside metal screens, allowing privacy yet allowing air into the rooms. The living and dining room have very comfortable furniture, and there is a flat screen TV in the living room with a couple of available English channels as well as Portugese channels.

Pool towels were supplied as were adequate linens in all bedrooms and bathrooms. The landlady kindly left a welcome package of fruit and fresh eggs from the chicken coop at the end of the property.

As well as the tram (Metro) making access to Porto very easy, we had two small cars for travelling about and getting to grocery stores and the like. Having a Garmin, with a Portugal card was invaluable. The villa is in a small town, so having a car was helpful

The beautiful Labruge beach was a 15 minute drive from the villa, and our group went there often, the young ones enjoying long runs on the extensive boardwalk alongside the beach. We also ventured to Braga, Amarante, Regua, Bom Jesus, as well as the Duruo River area, a must see. We went to wineries in the Douro area, as well as Port Houses in Gaia, over the bridge in Porto. Lunch at Taylors Port House on a nice day is highly recommended. We also enjoyed dinner at Ramon's in Vila do Conde.

Giles, the resident beagle dog was great company, very friendly, and very interested in any available food. The semi tame white doves have a house right by the pool and are fun to watch. There is some noise from the airplanes, given the closeness of the villa to the Porto Airport, however this certainly did not significantly detract from the many positives. The expansive and beautiful gardens create a wonderful oasis.

Booking with Allipio from www.finerentinghouses.com was easy, and he was very helpful in answering our many questions, and in fact even visited us to assure all was well. It was a great pleasure dealing with him.

“Wonderful Vacation Rental”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2011 for a stay in August 2011

My family & I just returned from a one week getaway in honor of my father's 75th birthday.
The house was beautiful and felt like home- we had a beautiful selection of fresh fruit and eggs from the owner's garden and the kitchen had everything you needed for cooking.
The bedrooms almost all had en suite bathrooms and there were two additonal bathrooms downstairs plus one in the pool house- very handy for large groups. The gardens & the pool were the main delight- they took our breath away and we loved the doves and Gill the beagle.
There was some noise from the airport and the tram, however it didn't affect our sleep at all. The tram is adjacent to the house and runs straight into downtwon Porto which is much easier than driving. The location is a bit further out but perfect for us- we had a rental car and loved exploring the nearby towns and beaches. To be honest, I actually don't think I would want to be in downtown Porto- two days in the city was more than enough for me!
The owner lives next door and she is such a darling- very sweet and caring. She does a spectacular job with this house and I would recommend it to anyone.

“Beautiful villa with exceptional garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2011 for a stay in June 2011

Our family of 10, including 4 children between the ages of 18mths and 10 years, had an excellent week at Casa Do Celeiro in June 2011. Weather sunny and warm but not too hot. Beautiful villa - spacious, homely and clean. Exceptional garden – large and immaculately maintained. Maria was very helpful and generous, leaving a much enjoyed welcome pack plus other produce during the week. Sandy beach and beachside restaurants at Labruge within 15 mins drive but the property, garden and pool was so inviting we spent much of our time there. We shopped at Lidl, which was a short drive away, and purchased bread rolls and cakes from the café a few minutes walk away. The garden was perfect for BBQ’s and we had a couple of meals out – one on the waterfront at Porto and the other at Vila Do Conde. Take the tram which is efficient, clean and reasonably priced. Well worth walking across the lower part of Porto’s impressive bridge and then getting the cable car to the top, which then makes it easy to return to the station. 50 minute boat trips available in Porto, makes a pleasant interlude on a hot day out.. We have all returned with fond memories of a happy holiday in Portugal. There is some aircraft noise but the benefits of the villa itself and the convenience of transfer to/from the airport well outway this.

“the best accommodation i have ever stayed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2011 for a stay in March 2011

well, i can imagine for some of you the title sounds a bit overpromising.
but believe me, it's not.
let me describe you the place, and hopefully you will think that i was right.

the booking was pretty smooth and easy. the agency guy (the ageny was flipkey) named alippio was extremely kind and helpful and always about to help us. by the way, he just came to welcome us like fifteen minutes after we arrived. i have never seen anything like before. i call it service.
ok.
how to get there?
we took a cab from the airport of porto. it took like 20 minutes. not a big deal.
how to get to the city? (porto, i mean)
well, the tram station (they call it metro i think, but i can't really remember) is just right on the corner. i am not exaggerating. it's like 30 seconds walk. the tram line and the coaches as well are like new. well designed and clean.
and the tram takes you to the very center without changing the line. it takes 35 minutes or so.
the house.
i would spend my whole life in this house.
as far as i am able to judge, the house was built around the 30's. it seemed bauhaus for me. personally, i really like this style.
it's a noble house. with all the features of it. the piano, the fireplace, the pictures on the wall, the furnitures, the carpets, the kitchen and everything. amazing feeling. really amazing.
the lovely owner, who is actually a noble old lady is living right next to the house in a smaller building. she is a real old fashioned lady. in a good way. in the best way.
when we arrived she was treating her flower n the garden, because she was preparing herself and her flowers to a flower-show.
she was invisible, but always there when we needed her.
there is victor, who is responsible for all the things around the house. he was really kind to take us to the local fish market, and at the end of our stay he transported us to the airport. for free. of course...
but, back to the house.
i took some pictures, so you all can see what i mean (but actually, the originally listed photos of the property are better. shame on me, i am not a star photographer...), so you can jude yourself if it's your kind of house or not. but i can't really imagine if there's a single person on this earth who would not impressed about this house.
and the garden.
it's beautiful. magnolias, palm tree, cypress and many-many kind of plants. a lot. because the garden is huge. really huge. there is also a pool, but we did not use it (it was like 15 celsius).
well, i don't know what else to say, but i am sure i won't forget those few days.
many thanks to every single person who were involved in this amazing stay.
