“A great view awaits..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

One of the 'must do things of Minho' a visit to the basIllica of Santa Luzia, we did have a car, but chose to take the funicular up because of previous ride's up one's like Budapest. The view as you go up in not great, but it was still fun. The real view awaits at the top. It costs 3 euros for a return trip.

“Up, up and away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

Lovely little trip up the elevador which was ideal as we had no car and our 3 children didn't fancy the climb up the hill. We had got the bus to Viana do Castelo for a day trip and this was the highlight, the church is surprisingly small on top but the journey up was what made it for the kids. If you don't have a car while visiting Viana do Castelo, then use the funicular,

“Elevator to history (that is roman history) at Viana Do Castelo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

I took my family up in the 'Elevador de Santa Luzia' during June 2013 owing to the fact that we did not have a car and my four year old daughter enjoyed the ride. To greet you at the top was magnificent views of the township of Viana Do Castelo and the north Atlantic ocean. Moreover, the elevador provided us the opportunity to transit to our key destination of the Santa Luzia ruins at an affordable price.

The elevador cost three euros for a return trip per adult while children aged up to five years old travelled free. The elevador was conveniently located close to the town centre / railway station of Viana Do Castelo and took place every 15 minutes.

Definately worth the ride.

“The funicular is a spectacular ride!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

As soon as you get off the train get on the funicular and ride up to the Basilica of Santa Luiza. From the top you have the most amazing views of the Atlantic and the town of Viana do Castelo beneath. If you suffer from vertigo don't go up the tower as it's hell on the way down!
