“A Porto must-see!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

This bridge is beautiful to look at, very impressive for its height but also amazing for its architectural feat of allowing river-crossings at a lower and at a higher level. I have never seen anything like this before. Also, on both levels, there are pedestrian walkways next to the street or tram-tracks, respectively, allowing you to cross the bridge on foot, which is particularly impressive on the upper level. Actually, when you look down from the upper level, the height is frightening and if you suffer from vertigo, you probably will need to stand back slightly from the railings. A fantastic construction and a real engineering feat!

“been there done it but never again!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Not too keen on heights but was determined to walk across the top of this interesting landmark.
The views are impressive but not for the fainthearted and it seemed a long way.
You share the way across with the metro trains which is a bit disconcerting. We walked back down through the back streets and steps - interesting insight into local life.

“Go for the view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

The view from this bridge is absolutely beautiful, especially at night when everything is lit up. You can see a fair bit of Porto both old and new. A walk across the bottom part takes you to the wine cellars, where you can do a wine tour and taste some Port wine.

“Walk across, then again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

Beautiful bridge. Very romantic especially at night when it is all lit up. The view from the park on the eastern side is worth the many steps. The view from the bridge down the river either side is stunning. It provides a wonderful backdrop.

“It's the bridges that make Porto Porto”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

Nice to look at; not so nice to use. We didn't notice until too late the poorly-placed signs for one-way pedestrian use, and nor did others. There really isn't adequate room for 2-way foot passage.

Also, there's no obvious way for pedestrians to access the top on the south side. We would have walked up, but where? We would have got the metro across but there's no obvious way down if one of the party won't use the cable car. There's a limit to exploring those hills on foot and the tourist map is useless for it.
