“Expensive, not worth it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

We got a room for two adults, two kids..a regular bed and a sofabed, not a suite. The bill was $362. Certainly not worth it. Staff was friendly and helpful, the room ok, but for this kind of money in Porto, I would have expected so much more. After traveling to the Parador in Baiona Spain and spending 155 euros for a luxurious room overlooking the ocean, this was a huge disappointment. Even at half the price.

I went back to Porto after 2 years and used this hotel as a base for touring the city and the region surrounding, introducing it to my partner. I had a car and the hotel parking facilities were a plus. Outside, the neighbourhood is hold and a bit decaying but inside the hotel was a surprise, good decoration and a nice modern and cosy feeling into it. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable.
The staff was welcoming and very helpful with everything.

Despite the car, we decided to walk, and the place is close to the area of ribeira (and the river), and 10 minutes from Boavista so a very central location. Only Serralves is quite far but we still ventured on foot (around 3 km) despite the 35-40C (95-104F) temperatures.

Was a pleasant stay overall.

Eurostars das Artes gave us everything we needed in Porto at a reasonable price. Central Porto is a city of old buildings, many looking abandoned, many being repaired. Located in a neighborhood a bit away (10-15 min. walk) from the main tourist areas, a bit farther to the river, the hotel is in a building that has been nicely renovated with touches of elegance. Our ground floor room was very comfortable and quiet with modern decor. The hotel has a lobby bar and a pleasant garden deck. Wifi worked fine.

Staff was very professional and helpful when asked for advice. Breakfast was fine with an array of several hot as well as cold choices. My only (minor) disappointment was there was no cut up fresh fruit, just whole pieces.

Exiting the hotel to the left there is a corner coffee shop and turning the corner to the left there is a minimart and a couple blocks farther a laundry where they will wash and dry clothes for 3.50 Euros/kilo (drop off in am and pick up next day).

Our sightseeing involved lots of hot walking, up and down narrow streets and staircases, so it was nice to come "home" to a quiet, peaceful room.

Very pleasant hotel. Very clean room, nicely appointed and comfortable. Residents' bar small but serves the purpose adequately. Breakfast not taken so I can't comment on the food. Location is not particularly central - it takes ten or fifteen minutes to walk to the city hall - slightly longer to the riverfront bars and cafes. Streets around the hotel very quiet and deserted after dark - I felt more comfortable getting a taxi back there late at night.

This is a charming boutique hotel within walking distance of all the major sites.
It is located in a safe residential area. We were able to walk to the sites and return via cab ( 6 euros) or metro (about ten min walk away). It is quite hilly so walking uphill in 35 heat was not possible.
The rooms are small but very clean and modern.
We did not have breakfast at the hotel but found great options within walking distance.
I enjoy quite and tranquility and this hotel offers that by being away from the hustle and bustle of other tourist areas- would stay again.

Stayed here on a business trip recently - comfortable and elegant hotel, nice rooms, free wifi, quite competitive rate. Didn't walk round area much but seemed to be fairly close to the older parts of Porto

The Eurostars Das Artes Hotel will not disappoint those who are familiar with the Eurostars chain of hotels. It is an elegant hotel that uses alot of wood furnishings and trim and marble to evoke an earlier period in time, yet it is definitely modern in terms of comfort and amenities. It is appropriate whether you are in Porto on business or for leisure and I felt very much at home while staying there for two nights.

The hotel is located on a small quiet street which really has nothing of special interest. There are small cafes and restaurants located within the immediate area of the hotel that are frequented by the locals. I did not notice too many tourists in this area, which may be a nice thing for some! The hotel building itself does not stand out but rather blends in nicely with the surrounding buildings. If you arrive by train or plane the buses stop about two blocks from the hotel, so it is very convenient in that regard. There is a sign at the bus stop pointing you to the hotel. For those familiar with Porto, the hotel is located by the St. Anthony General Hospital and the bus stop of the same name.

Check-in was quick and easy. The well-dressed (suit and tie) gentleman at the reception desk was very courteous and made sure he explained things, such as the location of the hotel on a map and the breakfast room hours, and the fact that I was entitled to a complimentary welcome drink at the bar. My room was a standard room (not large, but not small either) with a double bed, wood floors and a large window that overlooked a lovely pastoral setting. The bathroom was small but not too cramped with nice towels and toiletries. As mentioned previously, the furnishings are done in dark wood and marble so that you feel like you are in a country home, but well-maintained and modernized. There was a flat screen TV in the room with a large selection of channels.

The rate I selected included a breakfast buffet. My experience with Eurostars hotels is that their breakfast buffets do not disappoint if you like to have a large breakfast. The morning buffet at the Eurostars Das Artes was complete with hot and cold selections, breads and pastries, fruit, cereal, yogurt, juices, coffee, tea, etc. I'm sure the breakfast choices will please just about anybody, except the most picky eaters. There is lobby bar and a restaurant at the hotel for those who enjoy such things.

I have no complaints about the property itself or the staff and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anybody. However, if you prefer staying at hotels that are located on the doorsteps of the tourist areas, then this hotel is probably not for you. It is probably a good 25 mins. walk to the Douro river and the touristy area. That said, I enjoyed making this walk as I was able to appreciate some beautiful churches and parks along the way. This was my first time in Porto and I really did not have a sense of where to go, but I sensed that I should head toward the river to see the bridges that span it and the warehouses for the famous Porto Wine. All I had was a map and that was sufficient to allow me to orient myself when walking from the hotel into the center of town. So if I can do it, you can too...and it will help in walking off that large breakfast you have at the hotel!

Room Tip: Public transportation is available close to the hotel, but walk to the city center instead and enjoy...
