“Excellent city centre hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

An excellent quirky hotel in a really convenient location close to transport links and within walking distance of all the sights. The room was huge (though we had been upgraded for some reason) and had a massive bed. The entrance makes it seem as if you are entering an office block but, once inside, there are lots of retro style decorations and bits and pieces to look at. The only downside was the small breakfast room which served exactly the same food every day.

I stayed for one night and found the staff to be fantastic going out of their way to help navigate one's way round this really cool city. The room was more than adequate with excellent aircon and the hotel interior, although very dated, was quirky and unusual. The only reason that I deducted a star was for the breakfast which I thought was only very average. I would most definitely stay here again

Perfect location, few steps from metro and from Clerigos Church. Rooms are very very spacious, with nice and huge bed. Hotel itself is an attraction full of old stuff, toys, and furniture. The only thing is breakfast could be better with fresh fruits and eggs.

This hotel is great. I rooms are large and clean. The retro things around the hotel are funky and fun (bumper cars on each landing), and check out the collection in the hotel bar. The breakfast is good, great location and very helpful staff.

From my experience, staying at this hotel was one of the best things from my short trip to Porto. I will especially remember how friendly and nice was Claudia, the recepcionist, who helped us in anything we asked. I was also surprised by the good breakfast, especially as there were many different pastries and a very good orange juice. As for the location, it was just fantastic. The triple room we were given was quite big. The only "bad" thing if there was any should be the wifi connection that sometimes did not work, especially during the morning. Besides this, it was a very nice place to be at so I would deffinetely come back if I visit Porto again.

Some friends suggested this place because of the location. It is conveniently located, but that is probably the best thing about it. The rooms were a little small. A little bit musty and dated. The bathroom was tiny. The breakfast was included, it was ok, buns and breads and baked goods and jams. The retro antique decorations are kind of interesting. The staff was nice.

When the taxi dropped us off my first reaction was "what have I got myself into!". The reception desk didn't help much either being wedged into a tiny hallway. But this is a case of under promising and over delivering. Once we were able to see the rooms all was well. Booked a "superior double room". It was large even by American standards. Appropriately furnished , air conditioning worked and very pleasant. If however you like pillow top mattresses the mattresses in hotel will seem very hard. (The mattresses in The hotel in Lisbon were just as hard so it maybe a Portuguese thing). The breakfast was adequate albeit unimaginative . Nothing hot except for the coffee (which was good) and hot water for tea( which my wife appreciated since usually she gets lukewarm water). The only problem is that it was exactly the same for all 5 days we were there. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

The hotel is ideally situated. 600 meters from Sao Bento station from where one can get trains to Braga, Guimaraes , the Douro valley and to the main railway station(Campanha). BTW if arriving in Porto by train take The suburban Train to Sao Bento cost of which is included in your train fare, and walk from there to the hotel.. Beats taking the metro or cab. Metro station is about 200 meters away. Easy walk to the river and to the Port caves one the other side.

Not sure what else one could ask from a hotel. Took one star off for having to eat the same breakfast 5 days in a row!! Not sure it would matter for somebody staying there a couple of days.
