“Art deco gem just off main square”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2013

We chose this hotel for the art deco design but it turned out to be a great choice for everything else. Ditto to the good reviews below. The place was smart, central, great views from the terrace, exceptionally friendly staff. Left us with a great impression of Porto and would come again.

Great position. Spotless large rooms. Comfy bed. Separate bathroom. Nice breakfast.

Staff exemplary - particularly the gay, ex-air steward whose name I have forgotten.

Thanks for your help and your professionalism

Everything is walkable from here. Good base for a tour of the Dourro and plenty of Port tasting in Porto

I wouldn't hesitate to return

We had a VERY small room on the sixth floor with a terrace. The terrace space would have been a nice place to relax but the rainy days didn't allow for that. The walls are thin but the other guests were considerate the three nights we stayed. The shower is also very small. Bath and room were clean.
There were more than adequate choices for the breakfast service. The staff was knowledgeable and happy to assist. The hotel's central location makes it a good choice...especially if you don't plan to spend much time in your room.

This cute hotel was located in a neighborhood with easy to access the subway, and walk to your destination. The square just a block away was a great place to people watch and the School of Preforming Arts had students entertaining passers-by in the sqaure.
As far as the hotel, it was quirky and quite entertaining seeing all the vintage decorations displayed throughout the halls.
The unfortunte thing we experienced is that the hotel keys open not only your door, but aslo other hotel rooms. we had our room accessed 3 times in one hour, by either housekeepers who dont knock, or other guests thinking they were on their floor and were actually at the wrong room. There are no safes in the room, so we hid our personal effects of value and hoped no one would steal our things, which no one did.
Also, the beds were the firmest beds i have ever layed upon, so beware of that. We had backaches and hip issues for days after that. Our room had a main bedroom with a full bed and a twin bed, then a room containining the wardrobe closet, and finally the bathroom so it was rather spacious. We were on the 4th floor next to the elevator, so it was always quite loud in the hall outside our room.
The 6th floor terrace was a nice place to gather before our group headed out for evening meals, and the staff was very nice. They lock the doors at night, so you have to ring the bell for the attendant to come open the door, which made us feel safer, as there are a few bars around the corner which are open late into the night. The building also accomodated a law firm and a doctors office in the 2nd floor, i believe.
The staircase is quite amazing as well.

This hotel is located close to aliados and placa de libertad, which is the main hub in porto. It is very easy to get from the airport by subway. The hotel was a couple of minutes walk from aliados station.
The hotel is small and quirky. There were glass cases with toys and small cars that you could sit into on every floor. There was no lobby and a very small check in area.
The central feature was an unusually wide spiral staircase. There were also elevators.
The staff had very good english, were very well informed and friendly.
Our bedroom was on the fourth floor. It was spacious and the bed was huge. The bathroom was clean and a reasonable size. Bathrobes were supplied. The room was very quiet but we did not have a view.
Breakfast was continental. The small breakfast room was located on the sixth floor. There was a choice of eating indoors or on the scenic outdoor terrace. This doubles as a bar at night.
There were plenty of good restaurants nearby.
We would return. We have already recommended it to a friend.

We have stayed at this Hotel twice and it never ceases to amaze us !
Fabulous position. Close to the Cathedral and shopping centre but also just to the side of the main central piazza. Which builds the largest Christmas Tree we have ever seen !
The Hotel is really quirky... Best try to get a room with access to the balcony.
The Hotel has the most random decorations you are likely to find anywhere in Europe !
You turn a corner and stumble across a Bumper car ! Or a cabinet full of fifties toy cars.
The rooms are large and clean with really comfy beds
The staircase is a joy. The staff were polite and helpfull and for the price breakfast was fine.
Porto is an undervalued destination for a weekend break but this Hotel places you close to everything you would wish to see.the Douro River and all the Port Cellars are a short walk where you will also find some fine Fish Restaurants that the local Football team frequent ( Porto FC)
A short bus ride takes you to the local beaches and you are walking distance from a main Railway station.
We will definitely return.
Tip. Try to be there for the 1st December to see the grand lighting up of the Christmas tree ! Well worth the visit alone.

Room Tip: Try to book a Balcony room
