Description: das tripas coração is a Portuguese idiomátic expression that means «to bend over backwards».das tripas coração, more than just a name is a way of living and serving. Binds the popular expression with the city'scuishistory and its traditional dish.Situated in the heart of the city, with «ribeira» at itsfeet, its a spot that appeals to the smell and taste of Portuguese food!

“The best tripas do Porto!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

The place was recommended by the owner of the flat which we rent.
We ate a lot and we paid not so much! The "tripas" were great!
All was delicious! Maybe just the "bacalhao" quite "normal".
Very recommended!

“New Years prix fixe menu”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014 via mobile

We, a family of 4 with 2 young adult daughters, arrived in Porto from the Douro Valley on New Years Eve. Mariana, the hostess at our excellent nearby hotel, 6 Only Guesthouse, made us a reservation for the special New Years Eve prix fixe dinner at Tripas. We wanted something close by and affordable (many restaurants have special New Years menus, at much higher prices than 25€). The service was attentive, and the decor festive! clean and warm with candlelight. The food was a modern take on Portugese fare, starting with a white port, tonic and mint aperitif, then tomato bruschetta with asparagus and prosciutto, followed by a mixed green salad with flavorful goat cheese, balsamic and quince jam reduction. We opted for the veal steak with sautéed garlic spinach and roasted potatoes rather than the cod fish, having spent 9 days in Portugal with many opportunities to sample the favorite national dish. Nice flour less chocolate cake with sorbet, berries and espresso to send us on our way to the free concert and fireworks to ring in the New Year. The white sangria and light red wine recommended by our waitress were nice as well. Overall one of the best meals we had during our visit to Portugal.

“A nice surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

The hotel recommended us 2 traditional local dishes - Tripas and Francesinha, but didn't specified where to go. We decided this restaurant for being close to where we stayed and reasonably rated by the reviewers. It was a nice surprise. Both dishes were delicious and weren't not so heavy as we anticipated. Best of all it was the first meal in Portugal we had wasn't overly salted. The place was simply and tastefully decorated with a cozy feel. We could see the kitchen from the dinning area and the entire place was very clean. The table setting was professional and they changed our plates and utensils between each courses. The menu was simple, not an arm length long, so we could assumed that the ingredients were fresh. Our assumption was on the spot.

Looking from the outside, we were never expected this kind of quality in food and service. A nice and wonderful surprise. We decided to go there next night again for different dishes.

“Off the beaten track”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013 via mobile

We were recommended by our hotel.
We had our last lunch here, and WOW it was the best of our visit of 3 days!
Beautiful modern, clean and elegant restaurant, the staff were a sheer delight!
The menu was VERY Portuguese, and everything we had was FABULOUS.
Very reasonably priced and excellent taste. A real Michelin star restaurant.
Highly, highly recommended.
