This is a very new place... that's important to point out straight away and its probably fair to say that many of the small complaints we had will easily and quickly be ironed out by the owners who genuinely seemed interested in our comments.
The rooms are incredibly stylish and overlooking an amazingly historical street. The bed (a double... which is quite a rarity in Europe these days it seems!) was the comfiest we slept in during our holiday and the room is equipped with a small kitchenette where you can prepare breakfast. Breakfast items are left in a basket outside of your room late in the evening - which is a lovely touch - and includes cheeses, breads, hams, yoghurts and fruit. And best of all, you are above an amazing restaurant, Miss'Opo, downstairs which serves lovely, simple tapas food from a daily changing menu and where the staff are so helpful (menus in Portuguese and the staff took the time to sit down and translate the menu for us in its entirety!)
Now for my gripes. We were not informed on booking that the room would not be cleaned for the duration of our stay (three nights). Apparently that is the norm here for short stays and would not have been an issue if we had been told. Kind of disappointing when you come back to your room after a long day expecting a fresh room only to find the bed unmade and the breakfast stuff still sitting there. Indeed, we realised that this was not a 'hotel' per se, but even in homestays and guesthouses you get your room cleaned!
Gripe 2. The breakfast actually didn't turn up on our last night and so we left the next morning on empty stomachs. And the morning before had been put outside the wrong room (one below).... (or at least I hope it was ours outside the wrong room, otherwise we may have taken someone elses!!)
One other thing that you should be told about in advance is that the room is above a restaurant where, as we found, just about everyone was smoking and so our bedroom had a rather musty smokey smell about it on the restaurant's busy nights. Not ideal for non-smokers really. We dealt with this on our second night by burning a nice smelling candle but it was quite unpleasant on the first night.
The room we had faced out onto an extremely noisy street so I most certainly would not recommend for...
