It is next to Santa Catarina. A 2 mn walk distance and you are in the shopping district area with an easy access to many monument. At the reception, they speak French and English. Good breakfast is included, which is very important if you are with kids. Room is confortable. To get Wifi, you need to go out of your room. They put sofas outside your room so you can spend your time there to use the wifi. Wifi is free.

Great transport links to/from the Airport and train station, being just 100m from the Metro line and into town using bus or metro. Warm welcome from efficient and helpful staff. Comfortable air-conditioned room. Family room had two separate bedrooms.

Room tip: Family room had two separate bedrooms for kids privacy

Average hotel. The hotel room floor cracks when stepping on it. The beds were cracking too by every move you made. Shower was ok. Hotel is in walking distance to the centre. Breakfast was good! Staff is very friendly.

We booked into hotel São Jose and when we arrived were told our rooms were not available. They called a taxi and transferred us to another hotel which was absolutely terrible. We were not happy with our experience overall.

A small, friendly hotel, Sao Jose is very well positioned to explore Porto's old town and quayside - rooms are fine, little bit tired perhaps and I'd recommend having one that overlooks the street rather than one at the back -although light sleepers might disagree. We were driving south afterwards and Sao Jose has parking at c.15 euros for 24 hours - if you're in a similar position, suggest hiring a car at the end of any Porto stay because, as with most cities, you just don't need one while you're there. I regret having stupidly lost the name of the small husband-and-wife run cafe on one of the streets up round the back of the hotel (handwritten daily menu on blackboard outside, seating for no more than 20 inside) as top-notch home-cooked soup, fish and puds. Don't try and find it if you want candlelight but the quality of food supersedes the strip lighting! And don't wear anything in Porto except your most comfortable flat shoes!
