We booked the Sao Jose as a central hotel as my wife had recently had a hip operation. On arrival in the evening we were told that ther was no room for us and were sent to the Hol;iday Inn -almost on the city limits.
We compla\ined to the booking agency GTA Hotels - we still wait for their reply - 3 months later.

this small hotel is convenient for the main shopping area. Yes it is uphill from the river and Ribiera but then so are most places in Porto. The walk uphill took us about 20 mins.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean, plainly furnished (no clutter) with the exception of the bed which was a magnificent piece of art ! (& comfortable) The bathroom looked a bit tired but with all systems functioning. Breakfast adequate. Overall a good standard for the money, would not hesitate to stay there again.

The room was very nice (recently renovated?). Not expensive and just in the center of OPorto. It was a good deal!

Very clean hotel with staff that were always willing to help,only problem was the hotel was uphill from the main areas so after you had been out all day it was hard work walking uphill when you were worn out,but when you get the hang of it you buy a euroticket that allows you to ride on buses & metro for a small payment,saves a lot of walking.
