“Great location with amazing views over the river”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012 via mobile

Though we booked the river view we were put on the city side the first night and were changed to the river side the following day. The river side Is definitely worth the extra charge. The house is charming although the remodelling lost a lot of the of the character. Service is good and breakfast room very pleasant

I stayed here with my dad for four days. The hotel sits on the Duoro River which separates Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. This hotel opens up into a square which has a number of restaurants, it also faces the famous Ponte bridge and is within striking distance of Porto's best eats. In short, its location is enviable and perfect for long weekends for people who just want to enjoy the best of Porto in a short period of time. The view here is striking day and night, watching the vibrant colours of Porto houses or the glow of the Duoro river at night from the lights of the Port houses and towering Ponte Luis I bridge. If you like taking photos then this is definitely a great spot.

The rooms are spacious and I recommend looking around online for a good deal (which is what we did). The bathrooms are also spacious.

Customer service is pretty second to none here as well. The reception desk made several phone calls for us having recommended good restaurants and their local knowledge recommended good times to eat, places to eat and which port houses are worth going to. They were very gracious and, being honest, when I cannot speak Portuguese it is extremely useful to have someone sympathetic who is also honest with you and wants you to have a good experience.

Breakfast is pretty good too with continental breakfast options (cold meats, cheese, yoghurts, pastries) and a nod towards the American/British hot breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages etc. There is also fruit, fruit juice, hot drinks etc.

Room Tip: See if you can get a room with a view - we had an uninterrupted view of a brick wall with a particul...

Nice hotel and great location down by the river. Staff attentive and relaxed. Bar a bit pricey. Good access around the hotel for those with physical disabilities. Several bars/cares right beside hotel. Nearest metro - Sao bento

We decided to visit Porto in October, and altough the weather could have been nicer, in my opinion, the hotel couldn't. The location is excellent, right in the heart of the riverside area with restaurants a plenty nearby, the port cellars only a short walk across the bridge, and the city hall within a short walk. The taxi had barely stopped outside before the concierge was removing our luggage, and upon arrival we were invited to the bar for a complimentary port refreshment, which went down well. The room had a river view which was beatiful, and should we return to Porto, this is the only hotel we woulc consider.

In my opinion this hotel is the best in the area - very good location in the center near the river. We had a river view room, it was excellent. The room is very big, bathroom also. Breakfast is very nice - after it you can run through the city for a very long time. We advise this hotel o everybody.

I had to travel to Porto for work and in general the city is run down and not well maintained, there are other much more beautiful European cities. During this visit I had to drive and it was a nightmare to park close to this hotel. They close the street that leads to the hotel and only allow taxis to pass through. A policeman let me park in the middle of the street a block away to unload my luggage and I called the hotel to tell them this, but I had no help from them (I'm a single woman). I unloaded my luggage down the very steep street (in heels) and then had to go back to park the car at a garage 2 blocks away. I had a room with a view, which apparently was the best view of Porto, however it was on 6th floor and the elevator only goes to 5th, so more hauling luggage. Similar show to leave the hotel, except it rained on me. I stayed another night at Boavista blvd and they had valet and much better dining options.

Room Tip: If you will stay here ask for a room with view. I was given a room on the 6th floor and elevator onl...

The hotel is right at the River with plenty of restaurants & cafes in walking distance. There are great views and you can easily walk over the bridge to tour Port Houses. One of the hotel staff members gave us a great suggestion. Rooms are comfortable and clean.
