“A Tale of Two Halfs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

This hotel is located fairly centrally close to several restaurants/cafes and the shops but is a hike up or down hill from the river as the city is built on steep hills. The public rooms of the hotel are very ornate and it is worth visiting the hotel just to see these. The bedrooms however are on the small side, room 5 which has a double bed but not much space to move is short on hanging space as one side of the wardrobe contains the safe and the other side the fridge/mini bar. Ok for a male as you could hang shirts and trousers but for a woman with dresses to hang not much good. The bathrooms are a reasonable size. The room we were in on the 2nd floor was a twin room and had more space. Breakfast, served from 7.30 to 10.30 was good when we went at around 8am but not so good when a friend went in about 9.30am as they had not replaced the hot food or the cheese and ham and the coffee machine ran out at one point and it took them a bit of time to refill it. The WIFI was free and worked well enough for reading/writing emails but I did not try downloading film or music. The staff were very helpful mostly but the bar was closed sometimes during it's stated opening hours and service when it was open was very slow which was a shame as we were part of a group of 30+ and some of us would have spent money buying drinks in the hotel if it had been open and adequately staffed. Despite the downsides I would stay at this hotel again. Taxi's in Porto were cheap as was food and drink.

Room Tip: Most of the ground first and second floor rooms have restricted views but as you probably wound not...

Great location. Excellent breakfast. Rooms were a little tight but very clean. Bathroom was newly renovated and small but very clean. Wi if was included and worked adequately. Centralły located for shopping and restaurants.

Located on a walk street; our room 204 was plenty roomy. And quiet with the excellent windows and A/C. Good breakfast buffet. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The lobby area has a classic old charm feel; room upstairs are certainly adequate.

Room Tip: 204 is a good room

Great location on pedestrian popular shopping street. Many cafés and restaurants close walking distance.
Grand lobby and breakfast room but rooms very worn, tired and small. Very tight for 2 adults. Clean hotel but carpeting is stained and amenities just aren't there.
Ok for 1 or 2 night stay but the hotel I'm sure has seen better days.

This is a lovely hotel right in the middle of the shopping district (as far as I can tell). It's in the old style with a very grand lobby, lounge, bar and dining room which are equally warm and welcoming. The staff were attentive and helpful and, as I'm continually amazed throughout Europe, their English is perfect! The room I was in was a very small double, but it had everything that was needed: a comfortable bed with down pillows, decent air conditioning, a lovely marble bathroom (shower over bath) and plenty of wardrobe/drawer space.
Breakfast provided an ample spread of breads, cereals, ham & cheese, fruits and yoghurts (I believe there was also some cooked food which I didn't opt for) and a great selection of teas and coffees.
As I was in Porto for work at a conference, I didn't eat any other meal in the hotel.
I want to visit Porto again on holiday and will definitely try to book into this hotel.
