“Nice hotel, good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2011

Hotel was lovely with clean rooms which were small. Breakfast was included and was a buffet with both hot foods, pastries, meats, cheeses, yogurt, etc. Common areas were comfortable. Parking was not available when we arrived and we parked about two blocks away. Also access to the hotel with a car is a challenge as the street is mostly a "walking" street. Internet and parking were extra, although they gave us a voucher for the parking which made it reasonable, 6 euros/day. We parked the car and walked all over Porto. Staff was helpful and responded to our requests but some were not too warm. Would stay there again.

Good location, the public areas, the reception, restaurant were fantastic, it was plain to see why it is called 'Grande'. The rooms were as described in various guides, 'functional'. Nothing spectacular but was clean and everything we need were there, and also quite spacious so we were pretty happy. Thought it may be noisy in the evening but rooms were located away from the main street and was quiet. Great location to get around in the city too. There was a small terrace on the 3rd Floor, shame there was no bar there.

We had only 24 hours in Porto, and this hotel's central location and professional staff made our time there both enjoyable and productive. We arrived in the morning before our room was ready, but we were checked in and our bags whisked safely away in moments, and given a handy map to the city. After a four- or five-hour walking tour of all the main sights, plus some wine tasting across the river, we returned to the hotel where our bags had already been placed in the room. As others have said, the public areas of the hotel are very grand, in an opulent 19th-century sort of way. The rooms are plain and utilitarian, but ours was quite and had a great bathroom, and was scrupulously clean, so we were happy. Great breakfast was included in our rate; I recommend it if you are a breakfast-lover. All-around great hotel for a quick visit to Porto.

We stayed at this hotel for a week, the plus points were the hotel was very clean, comfortable, central, the breakfast was served until 10.30 every day, bonus is you don''t like early starts and there was plenty of food until that time. The food in the restaurant was best quality we ate in Porto and again was less expensive than many. Two courses bottle of Vinho Verde (7Euros) and water were about 50 Euros we paid 74 in another place and was not such good quality.
The only down side was we couldn't understand why the restauarant was so empty in evening so there was not much atomsphere. But we don't think people knew about it,. there were no menus in the rooms or indications of the evening menu in the foyer you had to go and look for it. A shame for the staff really. we would recomend trying the food.

The hotel location is great, and the staff is very helpful. The breakfast has a lot of variety. At first, the room that was destined to us was not very good, and the staff changed it twice until it was at our pleasure. The staff alwyas gave us good tips of restaurants and where to get everything we needed.

The hotel was far better than we expected for the money. Public rooms were beautifully furnished in traditional style. Reception staff were very helpful and cheerful. Our room was very large, even with three beds in it. Staff adjusted the air conditioning each day. Bathroom was compact but ok. Only downside was slight smell of drains from the washbasin. Not unexpected in the historic quarter. Hotel was conveniently situated to reach all sights/places and close to the metro for easy airport access. Breakfast was buffet style with lts to chose from, hot and cold food with lovely pastries, plenty of fresh fruit and juices. All excellent. We would definitely return again and recommend it unhesitatingly.

We enjoyed very much our stay in this hotel. The suite was fantastic, the hotel recently renovated with a very charming athmosphere and we were very close to the centre and to nice restaurants.
