I stayed at the Wine Hostel for 4 nights and had a comfortable time. The building exudes charm, and the winding staircases to the upper floors, while exercise, is fun and worth it. The staff were extremely helpful. Anytime I asked a basic question, they went above and beyond in making sure I had everything I needed to enjoy Porto. Best hostel staff I've come across in my years of traveling.
The only things I thought could have been better were the breakfast-- simple selection of breads, cheeses, fruits, filter coffee, and juices-- for 2.50 EUR. Maybe having an espresso machine available all day would be a nice investment. Also, when people go out to smoke on the balcony, could they close the door behind them? Often smoke wafted into the common room, and would flow upstairs. I was battling a cold so it really bothered me. My bed (in the Pink Room) seemed to have a dent in the middle, so I'd roll in a bit when sleeping, but it didn't bother me too much.
Other than that, this is a great location, a beautiful building, very clean, with a smiling, friendly, helpful staff. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. It was hard to say goodbye!
