“Best Hotel Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Porto Palacio is the best hotel experience you can get in Porto! The rooms are new and very fashionable and you can have access to all comodities. Customer Service is what it should be in a 5 star hotel and people are always nice. Try the sushi inside the restaurant - it is said to be the best in the city!

We spent 2 nights there to enjoy the marvelous city of Oporto and in fact we faced some issues by the time we arrives there was a confusion with the parking and we had to wait for the green light that eas not working because we were running against time for our dinner plana we asked for the valey to park, after we had to wait in the reception for the check in there was a line with 4 people and only 2 assistants, the room is good quality and overall the staff is very attentive and friendly, the breakfast is very limited in terms of options and the room o the breakfast very tiny and expensive. We also tried the SPA and although very nice swiming pool the fact that you have the locker in the midke btw the rooms dor massage and the pool made it less apealing to go back to the swiming pool after the massage

Perfect service, nice rooms, excellent breakfast! Very clean hotel, all facilities available for a decent price. If you can, ask for a high floor room, the view is amazing! Close to the metro and casa de musica

I absolutely loved this hotel. From the moment I walked in and the warm welcome of the staff at the desk and after the complimentary glass of port, it was all good from there.

The Art Deco feel of the hotel, the attentive door men. the room service, the room..it was such a great place to come to. The rooftop bar was just beautiful. The only downside was the road works - made getting in a tad awkward!

It was with great pleasure that we received your comments on Tripadvisor regarding your experience at Porto Palácio Congress Hotel & SPA.
We always concentrate our attentions to welcome guests the most warm and kind way possible, to make them feel special, so it is very rewarding to see our work is recognized.
The VIP Lounge at the rooftop is really a unique place in Porto city, worth visiting and spending some time there just relaxing and enjoying the service.
Regarding the works on the road outside we expect these to be finished shortly, by the end of this month, so hopefully next time you come to visit us you will find a much easier way in.
Our Seasons Greetings,

We spent two nights here last september and the stay was a bit disappointed.

We arrived around 10 am, our room was not ready we had to wait around 2 hours (I am not blaming the hotel as the check-in time is normally 2 pm), by chance, they offered us a glass of Porto. We were welcomed by Andy, Duty Manager for the weekend, she was really kind.

The room was quite nice, modern touches, unfortunately it was really dusty and we found the toilet dirty. When the luggage porter came to deliver our suitcases, I asked him if someone can re-tidy up the room and he answered yes! One hour later, no one came so I went downstairs to ask the reception, I also requested feathers duvet and pillows, apparently they do not have at all, that is strange for a 5 star hotel!
I will have forgiven the lack of cleanliness if the luggage porter had sent me directly the room attendant. It is inconceivable to me that someone says "yes" to a customer and not to follow the request!

Except that, It is a nice touch to provide local bathroom amenities. Also, I appreciated the underfloor heating and the television in the bathroom.

The breakfast was normal, nothing extra, I prefer the small breakfast room that the main one (looks like a canteen!). The hotel does not have Concierge service, this was not a problem this time as the reception answered my request successfully.

Regarding the location, be ready to catch a taxi or to walk 10 minutes to take the tube.

Overall experience - positive, I would have preferred to pay a little more for better service!

Nice location, with nice bars and restaurants in a center and good neighborhood.
Comfortable room but a little small....nice and quiet sleep.
Friendly but slow staff.
Rooftop bar and restaurant is the best asset for sure.

The Porto Palacio Hotel - where I am still at - is an okay option.
But with so many other good hotels in the same category and price level, this would not be my option again!

Pros:
- Service is friendly and quick.
- Executive Room has a good size, with bathroom and extra toilet/ bidet.
- Swimmingpool has a good size, gym as well

The BIG BIG CON: Breakfast

The absolutely biggest downturn is the breakfast. This is even the reason that I am writing a review again. It's by far the poorest, most ridiculous breakfast I have ever seen at a "better" hotel. It's not 5 stars, it's also not 4 stars. It would be a medium 3 stars at most!!!
And really: breakfast is very important, it's like business card.
I had to take pictures of it - because nobody would believe...

Because it's so little, here's the full list of what they offer for breakfast

- Meat: the worst imaginable processed ham, sliced turkey breast of medium quality, and really cheap sliced sausage
- Cheese: sliced Emmental and Gouda cheese, plus loafs cottage cheese, another Portuguese Chese, and Brie. None of them of interesting quality
- Fish/ Salmon: NONE
- Vegetables/ Pickles: NONE
- Warm food: colourless sausages, mushrooms, soft Potatoe slices, grilled tomatoes.
- Big attraction: Scrambled eggs - they are like, after scrambling them, somebody put water over them and then stepped and jumped on them for minutes until they are really disgusting!
Bacon, which was sometime grilled and then left to soak water... :-(
- pancake plus about 10 sorts of small Portuguese sweet things such as mini Pastels de Nata
- fresh orange juice (that's one good thing - but that's just normal in a "5 star" hotel)

They dont's have ANYTHING that would make one interested in trying or at least happy to see... - yet: they offer not only sparkling wine but white and red Port Wine for breakfast! Well.....

30 minutes before the official end of breakfast, they don't put any more food on the empty plates of the buffet - it's such a sad image! (at least they don't start cleaning up then)

Quite an addition to the breakfast experience is: Breakfast to the room!
I wanted to try that on a very busy day. Then checked the menu. When included in the rate, they bring up a very basic breakfast, consisting of basically Bread, Butter, Jam, plus Coffee and Orange Juice. Ham, Sausage, Eggs, etc. all cost extra! So a really normal breakfast would end up at more than 15 Euros extra. That's not acceptable!

(I know the management will write their standard comment on this, but NOTHING will change. Enough people have complained, but they wouldn't care. Which is a real pity)

Further cons:
- Carpets in the rooms are not clean. They clean them every day, but still there are a lot of remaining stains.
- the roof terrace is closed for reparations - I didn't see anybody repair anything though... - why isn't this being done in winter, when it's cold outside. That way, there's no way to get fresh air at the hotel site, as the windows open only very little due to security reasons.
- the elevator to the rooms is accessible without a keycard. I don't worry about this so much. But I am sure there are people who don't really find this very attractive...
- WI-FI internet costs 3,50 Euros per hour or 10 Euros per day! (included if booking a deluxe room)

All in all: NOT a 5-star standard, it's 4 stars in the feeling, the breakfast is a complete, COMPLETE no-go!

Room Tip: Highest-possible floor with an even room number, to see the ocean far away. Higher than 15th floor...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your preference and stay at Porto Palácio Congress Hotel & SPA during the past week visit to the Porto city.

Considering we do not have your identification and that the contact we are trying to establish with you on Tripadvisor has had no reply until now, we hereby post our reply and continue waiting for your response as soon as possible.

We would like to inform that we have taken notice of all detailed comments regarding your experience with us and especially about the hotel breakfast service.

It is our wish to sincerely apologize for the discomfort that these services caused you during the time spent with us.

We also deeply regret to have received this information through Tripadvisor while you were still staying at the hotel, because when guests complaint to us directly we can immediately act and solve any situation that may occur, as well as, provide a service that is more accordingly to their individual expectations.

At Porto Palacio Congress Hotel & Spa, member of The Leading Hotels of the World, we continuously strive to meet each guest needs, therefore your feedback, preferably at the precise time, is very important to us.

We thank you for the suggestions presented and give you some further details concerning other comments:
- that hotel wifi is now free of charge for our hotel guests, not depending on room type (except on very few specific contracted company rates).
- The roof top was closed and works were not seen, as there were climbers doing imperbealization of the facade of the Hotel (only can be done with dry weather and the result is to avoid humidity in the rooms during Wintertime); we had to remove protection and therefore to close for guest safety reasons.

We appreciate the time you took to share your concerns and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the future.

Yours Sincerely,
Eugénia Queirós
