Description: WELCOME. BIENVENUE. WILCOMEN. BIENVENIDOS. BENVENUTTI. After two years of hard work, you´ll find a homey and unique 19th century place, just in front of River Douro. Quiet, welcoming and rustic. Where wine and food are the excuse to forget the world, and to enjoy the moment. Tasting wines and eating excellent Portuguese food, in a relaxing environment, with selected music. Our aim is to make you feel at home. An open kitchen where we love what we do to whom we do. About 100 Portuguese wines (15 by the glass). A Wine and Grocery store where one can buy the best artisan jams and biscuits, as well as the wines in the list. Far from confusion, protected and exposed, we do an ODE to the Wine, to the city, and to the consumer.

“Book to avoid disappointment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2014

We called into Ode on our first night in Porto and were lucky enough to get a table fir two. The owner and his staff were knowledgable and passionate. The owner intervened to get us a table and insisted that we complain to him if even the tiniest thing was not right.

We had the mixed appetisers followed by the pork in orange sauce and finished with their speciality desert, the Grandmother's pudding. All were excellent. We asked for wine recommendations for each course and had a glass of excellent white and red Portuguese wine.

We had a table for two on a raised platform in the corner of the first floor. The service was excellent throughout.

I had one teeny complaint which, as instructed, I shared with the owner at the end of our meal. An unsightly strip light was visible from our table. He said he would have it fixed.

We so much enjoyed our meal that our last task was to book for a second night. Again we had an excellent meal and service. Oh and the owner explained that he had already commissioned an electrician to change the lighting.

If you are going to Porto, do yourself a big favour and book a table at this restaurant. It is small so I would book as early as possible. Note that they are closed Sunday and Monday and only take cash.

PS. They also sell a range of excellent ports they make themselves under the Ode label.

“Don't miss this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2014

If you're in Porto, this place is a must. If you can, get a table on the second floor, by the window. The view is nice. Even if you can't, it's still a nice place with a nice mood, great food and a friendly service. Perhaps a bit pricey for Portugal, but you gladly pay a bit more for a meal of this quality.

“Good restaurant, but €50 per person and must pay IN CASH?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

Everything was good or very good except the octopus. The wine list is big and has very good choices of portuguese wine. Service was friendly but not very professional. Ther price is too high and you must pay in cash???? The bill is writen by hand in a little paper label...

Dear José C

Thank you for your comment. Sadly you neglected some important information. We always inform by phone and by email, as in the outside menu and even in the inside menu: "Payment only by cash" As we always inform that for our guests comfort, there are 2 bank machines at less than 1 minute away. Walking!
Sadly you also forgot to mention what is written in the welcome letter: "please feel at great ease to ask for any advice or to inform us if something isn’t as expected." regarding the octopus issue or service faults? We would have appreciated and therefor improved in the moment, for exemple, serving another dish.
There is no mandatory 50€ consumption. The prices reflect what our kind guests ask for.
The bill is proudly written by hand in a little paper label, that happens to be very rare, like in the very old times. We consider it as a tribute to our guests. Please excuse our fault.

Best regards. At your service.

“Amazing!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

My partner and I visited this place two years ago, but it just occured to me that I never wrote a review. It was incredible (so good, we went twice!) The food, the service, the atmosphere. The owner has a very clear concept, including local produce and design, and it really works. A MUST when visiting Porto!

“Another TA top tip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

TA comes up trumps again here.

Modern, innovative fresh produce in a funky setting back rom the river.

You need to book as it gets very busy and is only a small resturant.

Entree was a selection of olives/bread and cured pork with olive oil - simple but very good.

The grilled octopus was tender and tasy. Recommended. The pork was good, but did not rise to the lofty levels of the octopus.

Cash only! Great value for the food quality and service.
