“Modern, very friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

The stay at cosme guesthouse was really a very pleasent one. Upon arrival,
André (one of the staff people) gave us a very warm welcome.
He immediately served a glass of port wine and told us about
nice places to visit. Especially the tips for good restaurants in
the
vincinity of the guest house were really appreciated.
The room was very nice, clean and quiet. Definitely a recommendation
to stay there. Just don't be afraid about how the guesthouse looks
from outside - it's been completely refurbished inside and has a very modern look.

As if you have any doubts about this place - the reviews here are wonderful, right? Well, it gets better. I was delayed by more than 24 hours last week, due to the general strike that prevented me from traveling from Lisbon to meet my parents at the airport in Porto. The staff at Cosme welcomed my parents with the Port and cookies, and then repeated the whole process for the three of us when I arrived the next day. Throughout our stay they were wonderful - always quick to answer our questions before we asked them. (E.g., when I mentioned to Tiago that we'd be checking out early, he immediately offered to send us breakfast and reserve us a taxi.)

Our apartment (Klee) was great - clean and comfortable, and breakfast was plentiful, diverse and delicious. Any complaints we had were totally related to American creature comforts: lack of ice, size of glasses, later start to breakfast than we're used to.

If you're a walker, it's super easy to get anywhere in town, and if you're not, there are several restaurants and cafes (if you're willing to try speaking a little Portuguese) within a 1-4 block walk for when you're hungry, and a short taxi ride to the riverfront or city center for other activities.

Thank you to Tiago, Sandra, Andre and anyone else we're forgetting!

My friend and I stayed at Cosme Guesthouse for 2 nights in the Zaha Hadid room on the first floor. Located in a quiet neighborhood behind an unassuming facade, the facilities are modern and clean. But what sets this place apart is the friendliness of the staff. With that first glass of port and cookies and helpful orientation to the city, they made us feel very welcome. If I had one criticism, though, I wish the shower space were just a touch bigger - it was almost impossible to take a shower without touching the shower curtain.

We stayed with Cosme Guest House for 3 nights. From the moment we walked through the door we felt so welcome. The staff are what really makes this Guest House - always smiling and friendly. They seem to go that extra mile to ensure you enjoy your stay. We had the Dita room which was lovely with a small but basic kitchenette with a mini fridge, microwave and sink. This is handy if you want to fix yourself something light. The room has two very large windows with shutters overlooking the courtyard and in the afternoon the sun streams in to make the room very light and airy. Breakfast is continental and quite adequate. You certainly will not go hungry. They will quite happily make you an espresso should you wish. You must try the cake - it's divine!! There are no tea making facilities in the rooms however they are quite happy to make you a cuppa should you wish one in the afternoon or evening. However, they ended up giving us an electric kettle with tea, milk, cups so we could make our own - along with some cake and biscuits - perfect!! The location is pretty good too - close to the trams however more in the quieter area. Everything is within walking distance though. This Guest House is perfect!

Arrived in the early afternoon with friends and was immediately welcomed by the friendliest staff you could imagine. We had espresso and Port in our hands right away and when we requested recommendations for the city, we were given maps of the city with highlights for walking tours, restaurants nearby and for the next day, Port warehouses, and places to visit outside the city. The room was clean, comfortable, and warm with great artwork. It was a short walk to the city center and whenever we returned we were again warmly welcomed by the staff. Highly recommended place to stay. I would definitely stay here again. I was with friends, but I think it's perfect for family, couples or solo travel too.

I arrived here early evening at the end of a dreadful, stressful day, and it was like walking into some enchanted grotto, with the host Jorge and his charming assistant sitting me down with a bottle of Port and a plate of very good biscuits. We talked for an hour or so about everything under the sun, in a zen-calm interior, and after a few minutes I'd forgotten all about my worries. As another reviewer has said: these people could teach any hotel how to make guests feel welcome. The place is small, arty and exquisitely stylish in a low-key way - Jorge is an architect, and the design of the place shows it. Each room is individual, and each has its own charm and special touches. Some have kitchens and many have more than one bedroom or sleeping area. The breakfasts are at the top end of the spectrum for a Portuguese-style breakfast. The location is a fairly quiet residential street with a handful of cafés, bars and eating places within 200m. The walk into the centre of town is interesting and takes 5 minutes or so. I cannot think of any way I would improve this place, and I'll be staying here from now on whenever I'm in Porto.

I have stayed in hotels and guesthouses all over the world and very rarely have I found such a hospitable and welcoming place as Cosme. All hotel owners should send staff here to train them in attitude.
Apart from the excellent staff, the hotel is clean and a short walk to the metro and maybe 15 mins to Porto centre. Breakfast is fine and the staff will give you a map of several nearby traditional restaurants.
There is no lift but if needed staff will help with bags to upper floors.
We took a taxi from the airport ( 20 euros) and the train back. Train much cheaper but can take much longer if you just miss one.
My only criticism would be that a jug for tea/ coffee making in rooms would be nice but staff are always happy to make what you would like.
