“Stately, clean hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

Rooms are stately, clean, luxurious and a good size. Great cozy bedding. Could close the curtains and be removed from the rest of the world. Modern amenities. Separate jacuzzi in the bathroom. Great breakfast spread. Nice bar area. Right in the heart of Porto, walking distance to everything. Highly recommended! Concierge is amazing!

We spent two nights at this hotel last wekend. The location is probably the best in Porto, right in the city center, you can walk easily to the different places you want to visit, the river is at 10-15 minutes walk and same happens with shopping areas and other attractions. It is also perfect for arriving by train as the station is just a few steps away, although you do not have any noise or the atmosphere that surronds typically train stations. The hotel itself is what you expect from a 5 start hotel and the reception staff and the concergerie are professional and provide all the help and assistance you may require. The room we stayed was large, with confortable beds and a large bathroom. All was clean and with a smart decoration. Our room was facing the cathedral at the back part of the hotel. Very quiet, no outside noise and there was a beautiful light coming in the room durign the day hours. Breakfast was fine, not too many options, but correct. If there is somethign that was not so great was the service from some of the restaurant waiters, really young and not paying any attention to used dishes form the buffet, getting you clean cutlery or getting right the hot drinks order. We had a bad experience with a couple of them, but on the next day, the one taking care of us was excellent and very professional. I hightly recommend this hotel for visiting the city and we will be back whenever again in Porto

I loved everything about this hotel. It definitely lives up to your expectation as a 5 stars hotel. Very clean, great service, room is huge, kings size bed, super comfortable. Perfect location. The river boat tour closed at 4 PM....I missed it. I loved Porto.

Room Tip: A room on the back side would be better than the road side

I am delighted to read that we were up to your expectations and that you loved Porto.
In the summer time the Boat Cruise until Regua is available, along the journey you may see the landscape of the Douro, the first wine region demarcated in the world where the Port Wine is produce.
The 6 Bridges Boat Cruise of 50 min, is available all year and it is a great idea to take pictures.

It was everything we had hoped from reading the reviews here - very well situated and a comfortable and elegant stay. We had a room to the side which had no traffic noise issues; it was tucked away right in the corner, with an open door leading to an internal lobby with two bedrooms off, which would be very useful for a family. The room itself had an odd layout - turning right into an internal corridor, with a bathroom area off, and then into the room itself. Not huge but spacious enough. This layout may have explained the wifi issues as I could only get a satisfactory signal on my ipad by staying near the entrance door.

Very comfortable and clean bedrooms and the public areas are very attractive. The bar is nice, designed to look like an old fashioned 'gentleman's library' I think.

Excellent buffet breakfast, with a wide selection of fresh foods.

We spent four days at Intercontinental in Porto. The location is great, in old part of the city, 10-15 minutes from river Douro, close to railway station( but there was no any noise) and main attractions. Free wi fi service in rooms, friendly staff. Inside of the hotel located jewelry and watches boutique which provides a wide range of traditional portuguese gold/silver jewelry , recommended to visit for ladies.

We only had 2 nights to spend in Porto with a very early departure after the 2nd night. Upon arrival at the hotel checking in was a bit confusing since the first desk you get to is the concierge desk and has nothing to do with check in. So when entering take the few steps on the right to get to the check in desks. Reception was very friendly and helpful. We made a planning for 2 days and the concierge made all our reservations , Fado restaurant ,port cellars and nice restaurant for the last evening, but we started of with a tuktuk tour through the city. The concierge was really helpful and he gave us very good advise on what to do and where to eat. In our room we received a bottle of water and some fruit as a welcome . Rooms are very spacious and comfortable , with a very nice bathroom and free internet. The breakfast room is really nice but on Sunday morning it was a bit chaotic,it did'n spoil our appetite though. Since we had to leave very early on the Monday morning to the airport we were not able to have breakfast as planned but the reception suggested us to serve breakfast in the lobby just for the 2 of us and we could inform them on our wishes what we would like to eat. Breakfast was served at 05h30 sharp by a super friendly concierge . And all our wishes were granted. If I would recommend this hotel, definitely YES

Room Tip: we had a room at the back of the hotel, for the few times you watch through the window during your s...

Went there as part of a tour of Portugal with my wife. Here are pros and cons of hotel.
Pros:
Location. Close to the old city, on the most beautiful square in downtown Porto, surrounded by baroque buildings. Staying in a similar hotel in any city would cost at least 3 times more.
Charm: Old world charm and renovated room, high ceilings, hardwood floor, modern bathroom.
Staff kindness: Staff diligently answered all our questions and addressed our concerns.

Cons. - The cons are minor, and are meant for hotel management to improve.
Staff very young.. I dont think I met any staffer in the hotel older than 30 year old. Kind of weird for a hotel this caliber, I mostly got good advice except once: When I asked where I can have breakfast, the concierge indicated to me 2(nice) places, but which open at 9:00. Maybe inexperienced staff?
Apart from the bottle of water, no welcome anything. No welcome drink. No chocolate on bed. No fruits in room. If you arrive hungry at the hotel, you have to go out look for a place to snack.... or order the odd room service.
Smells and incense. Who ever told hotel management that imposing on their guests to smell incense in the corridors is a value added? True, the smell is delicate. But useless and bothersome.
Noise. We took a room with an exceptional view on the square. Square is noisy. Insulation is average. Got awakened twice by street noise. Still the view was so nice that I would take the room again. The windows are double glazed but I suspect the noise must be coming from below the glass, through the wood board under the windows. I advise the hotel to address this point.

Despite all of these, I strongly recommend the hotel, If you are a tourist, take the room with a view. If you are on business and sleep is primordial to you, then better to take a room facing the back.

Room Tip: Room facing the view are worthwhile if you are heavy sleeper or if sleeping is not the objective. If...
