“Delicious traditional style Portuguese food...that you will have to wait for!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014

We ate here on Easter Sunday, and so it was extremely busy because many restaurants were closed and there also happened to be a big tour group eating at the time. Unfortunately we had to wait outside for 45 minutes to get a table and the service was overall friendly but very slow. They took ages to clear tables after people left which meant a longer waiting time and ultimately less customers. Nonetheless, the baked pulvo (octopus) was delicious, as was the rest of the food. Ambiance is great and it really feels like a genuine Portuguese restaurant, despite being in the tourist trap area. Would recommend this restaurant if you can avoid the crowds and not have to wait!

“Atmosphere, value, expertise.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2014 via mobile

This restaurant is just off the quayside in a busy back street. In an area that is dominated by tourists there is a tendency not to care too much and get away with it. This restaurant, however, would appear to be trying hard to do things right. Let us start with the atmosphere - it is comfortable, buzzy and friendly and does have live music later at night. It does not have a view. The food was excellent with a very good choice, well explained by the service team and there was a lot of it at very reasonable prices. The starters were on the table but you do not pay for things you do not eat as suggested by a previous reviewer. The service team were amazing. They were attentive, informative and friendly as well as being very busy. Was it because the owner was eating there with his family when we arrived? I don't think so. I think they were just a professional team who knew what they were doing and the owner helped out too when necessary. You could be tempted by the view of the river and sit on the quayside but you will be better off just off the main drag in the hands of professionals.

“Porto”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014

This restaurant is a must, it was around the corner from our hotel and we discovered it on our first night. The food and service is excellent with a buzzy atmosphere, the staff are really friendly and if you want authentic Portugese food then this is the place, also the cost is very reasonable and we enjoyed our visit so much we went again on our last night.

“Raw fish”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

The bass arrived raw. We returned it to only get back the same fish cooked again. It tasted like meat! Most probably the same grill is used to cook both!... Unacceptable! Not even an apology!

“Appealing interior, service average, food ? Well...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

My wife and I chose to have a lunch in this restaurant. Immediately after we entered a waiter came to us to help us find a table for two. That was very promising - it looked like quest is a king and he/she must be immediately served. But... He brought a menu and there were several dishes, fish and meat. The prices were very reasonable (8-13 Eur). My wife ordered Bacalhau con Natas (8,90 Eur) and glass of red wine (2,50 Eur). She was satisfied with taste and it was quite a portion (she couldn't finished it). I decided for beefsteak in Porto wine sauce. For drink I took bear (2 dl is 1,90 Eur) and we got 2 sangria (for free). When we sat at the table there were some olives and a kind of bread with different kind of sausages (called Bola carne caseira - 2,60 Eur). After a while a waiter brought a dish with baked sausages. All of this three items were starters (1,9 - 3 Eur / item). It is kind of a way doing business in Portuguese restaurants - they bring you a starter(s) and it ends up in your bill nevertheless you ate it or not. We returned olives and sausages back. After a while the waiter informed me that they don't have "Porto steak" !?! In Porto they couldn't get Porto wine - disappointing! He suggested a "similar" dish - beefsteak with potatoes (10 Eur). And what I got - a thick, rare done steak. Potatoes were boiled with skin on. At first it really looked promising but the rare part was too "gummy". I couldn't eat it. Maybe someone like his steak rare done and it's ok but unfortunately our waiter didn't ask how do I like my steak. My second remark - I asked three times for another bear. After 20 minutes finally got it. Atmosphere in a restaurant is quite pleasant and it seems this place is rather popular. But be careful when you order your dish ;-) .
