“A gem by the ocean”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

Wonderful escape from the city. With incredible attention to detail, Catarina and her staff have created a haven in an old part of town. Nothing is too much trouble, the rooms are stunningly appointed and the breakfast wonderful. The goodies in the kitchen are available to all in this beautifully designed environment. Suggest a room away from the front of the house would be best, but otherwise all was excellent. The proximity of the river, the ocean, the tram and the bus was also a big plus.

Room Tip: The one room over the front entrance could be noisy but only occasional traffic passes by on the cob...

Last week we stayed at Four rooms for two nights. We arrived late at night and Catarina gave us a warm welcome. We really enjoyed our stay in their beautifull designed and decorated skyloft and wished we could have stayed a little longer in this hidden treasure in Porto. Their beds are just heavenly!!!

The daily breakfasts are lovely and perfect. All the personal touches are great. Catarina is your personal guide and nothing you ask is too much. She knows the area and has great restaurant tips ;-)

We will definately return one day. We highly recommand Four rooms, just experience it yourself if visiting Porto!

It just doesn't get much better than this - a beautiful, intimate b&b in one of the nicest areas of Porto. This was our 2nd stay and we already plan to return next year. Catarina and her team offer the best experience and will go out of their way to make your stay memorable. Great (& clever) design, delicious breakfasts and above all the feeling of coming home make 4Rooms so exceptional. A gem!

We'd booked 4Rooms based on the reviews and weren't disappointed. Arriving into Porto, I'd had wondered if I'd made the right decision because the hotel is a bit far from the city centre. Any hesitation evaporated as we checked in and were met by Catarina and offered tea, coffee & cake. As we soon discovered, the Foz area where the guest house is located is a quick bus ride to the tourist centre of Porto, but also holds its own in terms of restaurants.

Our room (double s), was on the smaller side, but were warned of this at the time of booking and it didn't bother us at all. The room's ensuite was a full size.

The staff were by far and away the aspect that made the 4Rooms an excellent stay. Both Catarinas were gracious hosts and offered excellent suggestions for restaurants and sightseeing activities in Porto.

We stayed at 4Rooms for two nights before going to the Douro Valley, and loved 4Rooms so much that we returned to stay another night. Catarina welcomed us with a cappuccino and cake in a beautiful little patio and, as we relaxed, she took our luggage up to our room. She pampered us throughout our stay and we truly felt attached to her---as if she was a daughter---when we left (we hope she comes to visit us sometime in St. Helena, CA!) Look at the photos of this B&B at 4rooms.com or on the chicretreats.com website, where it is also featured for its award-winning architecture. The Foz is a great, old section of Porto with narrow cobbled streets and you can take the electric tram to the touristy area, if you want. Catarina also made reservations for us at The Fooding House, which we highly recommend. 4Rooms was a wonderful experience, made even better by Catarina.

Room Tip: We had the smallest room and were completed satisfied with it. Beautiful marble bathroom. Everythin...

Staying at Foz was the best idea to start our week-end in Porto. The facade of the 4Rooms may seem insignificant, but what a surprise when push the door! We are both into modern architecture, and staying in the Skyloft room was a great experience for us. It is beautiful, well thought, modern yet warm and cosy. The possibility to use the iMac was definitely a plus!

Catarina is the best host ever. Even though we arrived during the busy breakfast time, she came out of her way to show us around, and even drove us to a nearbyplace on the river where we could have breakfast. She also suggested a great itinerary to visit Foz and some contemporary architecture areas in Foz and Porto. Both restaurants she advised to us were great. This is truly a service you can hardly get in a hotel, and it made us feel really welcome.

The place may feel too modern for people who are uncomfortable living in a modern space. What you see on the pictures is exactly what the rooms look like, so you can make an informed decision before booking there.

Cannot recommend 4Rooms highly enough!

Room Tip: We loved the Skyloft room a lot, we also saw the room with the garden view which seemed amazing as w...

This is really a gem. Exquisitely designed and with a very personal and gentile staff. It' can't be better.

One house has 3 rooms. Then, across the street is an independent bungalow. We stayed there for 2 nights. Every detail is amazing. If you're staying longer you may prefer to stay in the main house since it may be a little bit claustrophobic to stay there with no windows. But if you're stayong only a couple of days, it's wonderful. The two Catherinas, who work there, were very helpful and gentile. Breakfast was very, very good.
