“Too expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2011

We paid 75 euro per night for a double room and i found it's too expensive for what we got: The room is really big and looks nice, but it was hard to climb all the stairs up there (no elevator) and i foud much dust on the floor under the bed, on the wardrobe and on the balcony. Most of light switch didn't work and the boathroom had not enough space for our cosmetic stuff. Also, i found the bed quite hard if you lie on the side. We had a room towars the garden which is supoosed to be more quiet than towards the street - but in fact it was not really quiet: There was a construction side nearby, a colony of doves screaming and eaven lound talking people in the streets nearby get noisy because of the echo between the streets and the high buildings around.
Rooms had sun all day but no aircon, so impossible to close the windows.
For 75 euro per night i expected more functional comfort, but what we got was "pimped up" old charme. However, loaction and breakfast was good.

We chose to stay at the Pensão Favorita in Porto for 2 nights during a sightseeing / roadtrip in Portugal & Spain with friends. This is definitely a hotel with a difference, almost Bohemian in it's character and run by the most pleasant, helpful people we could have wished for. Don't let the outside of this hotel put you off, it's situation in a congested narrow street on the edge of town isn't the most inspiring, but walking through the front door is like entering a completely different world from the one you''ve just left! Our spotlessly clean room with its incredible shower was situated the back of the hotel on the top floor & was lovely. We had a nice large balcony overlooking the back garden and hotel restaurant. This is a small hotel, with only about 6 or 7 rooms, but as the saying goes, "Good things come in little parcels" and this was certainly the case here. Be warned though that there is no lift and the stairs are quite steep so anybody a bit unsteady on their feet may struggle a bit. Having said that the staff / owners are are only too willing to take the bags up to the rooms & for anybody who would struggle with the stairs I daresay lots of other help would be forthcoming.

Access to the old town is a fair walk but it's all downhill and worth it to see the many old and interesting features of this rugged old historic town - there is so much to see & do in Porto that we wished we'd booked for a longer stay. Getting back to the hotel after walking around all day could be a problem as it's quite a steep climb back but taxis are plentiful and cheap - in fact after dark I'd recommend taking one anyway unless in a large group of people as there were a few unsavoury looking people around as we walked back to the hotel one night. Near to the hotel there is a good little shopping street with a few bars and restaurants although the street beggars can become a bit of a nuisance here. Unfortunately, Portugal is a poor country so has more than it's fair share of beggars on the street, it's sad but you can't help them all and we weren't convinced that some of them were actually genuine.

Parking at the Pensão Favorita is non existent but the street where it's located has a number of car parks where you can leave the car for a few days quite safely, they do appear to get cheaper as you go along the street though so don't be tempted to turn into the first one you come to as we did! Breakfast is included in the room rate here and it was very good value. We also ate at the hotel one night of our stay and the food was good but quite honestly but not the best we've ever had, it did represent good value though I thought. As the title suggests, this hotel is a little gem and a great find. For the very reasonable cost I can't see there being any more comfortable or intertesting accommodation in Porto. A real, "Littte Gem"

The owners and staff make you feel very welcome. Nothing is too much trouble. Our flight with TAP got changed to 3am and they organised use of a shower for us. We stayed for 6 nights and the best room was the attic room as it was not noisy. This is an old building and you can hear other guests!

The food is excellent - try the evening meal very good value for money. Sit in the garden after a day sight seeing and relax with a cocktail. Very relaxing place.

I would go back to Porto again and stay here.

Rua miguel Bombarda is an indie street with many interesting finds and pensao favorita is along this beautiful street. The concept and design of the hotel totally blew us off. When we entered the room, we loved how big and spacious the room was. we even had a very spacious balcony. ofcourse, it was really clean too. The staff there were generally friendly too. and the breakfast was very sumptuous, my friends and i are usually so full after breakfast that we will just skip lunch. the hotel is so worth for the price we paid. will definitely go back again!

I spent a week-end in that hotel with 2 friends and we really enjoyed it. First of all, it's really beautiful and decorated with taste. It's clean and modern, we slept well. The breakfast is good and served in a lovely garden (when the weather permits it). And most of all, the peolple are really nice and helpfull. The lady at the reception spent a lot of time answer to our questions and to give us her good adresses of Porto.

....we spent only 2 nights there but we appreciated so much the place.... the atmosphere is nice and with attention to every details in furniture and the interior decoration.
Very big and bright rooms with all comforts. The quality/proce ratio is perfect!!
The breakfast served on the back garden is delicious and very relaxing sitting there at the shadow of the patio!
