“Cozy restaurant upstairs; great find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

If our hotel hadn't recommended this restaurant, we probably would never have noticed it. . . it's upstairs with just a side-board out front. If you're staying near the University, this restaurant is definitely a good find! We ate there twice and except that the vegetable was a bit overdone, really enjoyed our meals. We liked Carlos. . . .he tried to help us with our Portuguese and recommended great wines.

Just be aware that in Portugal many restaurants bring you starters. If you eat them, you pay for them. Otherwise they'll eventually take them away and you won't be charged.

“Nice neighborhood bistro”

Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and good food. We would have gone back if we'd had more time. Try the Angolan specialties.

“Nice ambiance, traditional dishes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

Nothing terrible, not terribly memorable either, but it was only our second Portuguese meal and we enjoyed it as much as any other (to be honest we didn't find the local food memorable, but then we did live in France for 15 years). The caldo verde was better than we'd had the previous night; the local-style mixed grill was very interesting (it included tripe and bits of fried blood!); the cod was traditional...

You do have to be careful about what seems to be free but isn't, but that's just the local way. Tourists beware! The waiter clearly appreciated our feeble attempt at Portuguese and our interest in local traditions - that might be useful to bear in mind when eating there. Tourists can be pretty horrible customers, after all.

“Promised so much.....,”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013 via mobile

Delivered so little.

Mixed starter was terrible!

Main course of cod and potatoes with chick peas was in edible!!

Then they charge for bread that wasn't eaten.

To add insult to injury, the card machine was not working.
