“Lovely Hostel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

This is a lovely centrally located hostel. The house is over three hundred years old but it has beautiful modern facilities and decoration. There is a fully equipped kitchen and lounge area with a computer for guests. There is also wifi throughout the house. The owners are lovely and very helpful. They made us feel right at home. At breakfast we tried some of their delicious home-made jam, which they also sell. Highly recommend it!

Very old house from 17th century, all in granite, rebuilt a few months ago, everything new, very nice decoration, fully equipped kitchen, free internet all over the house, computer for guests, perfect location at 150 metters from main square of Guimares in a quiet old street. Guimares is a precious city with gorgeous medieval historical centre, so beautifull, well kept and clean. We were a group of 6 and slept in 8 dormitory room during 3 days at 14 euros per day/person and it was ok. The owners are really nice and try to make your stay as memorable as possible, they give you very good and impressive tips about the city and its history. We have one critic: the breakfast should be included, even if the price should be 16 or 17 instead of 14, because the home made jams are super hiper good and the bread is really fresh and tasty.

We didn't like our stay in Prime Hostel Guimaraes. Located near to the city center in a very old building of granite. The owners did choose for black furniture in the livingroom/kitchen. That makes the look and feel very dark. That's setting the atmosphere a little oppressive. The owners are present all the time, they gave me a feeling of controling stuff. They say that you're welcome to use the kitchen, but they are checking if you do it on a right way (at least this was my feeling...). Breakfast isn't included. It was very crowded in the hostel during our stay. Bathrooms where wet and dirty and there was a lot of noice in the night. We slept in a dorm and the people there weren't that friendly. Not a nice experience...
