Just returned from a 2 week holiday at this hotel. I did not book a sea view room but requested a high floor, on arrival was on the 1st floor side view. Tried to upgrade to a sea view but hotel was full. We settled for where we were and found the view quite pleasant, we could see the hills, sea and part of the swimming pool. Room was very quiet and we felt secluded so OK. Beautiful clean hotel, huge bed with lovely quality bed linen which was changed every day. All the staff friendly and helpful. I enjoyed all the meals, lots to pick from and I saw them checking the temperatures all the time which is reassuring. A very relaxed atmosphere at the hotel, the other guests all seemed very friendly and approachable, had some nice evening chatting to other people. We used the local buses to visit places of interest, a lot cheaper but most involve going into the town center. The walk down to the town is easy and pleasant and most reasonably fit people will manage it no bother, the return is do-able till the final walk up the hill which is difficult and tiring in the heat of the day but we managed it every day (sometimes twice) and were in our early 60's. By the end off the 2 weeks it was a struggle(must have been all that lovely food). Altogether a very pleasant holiday, Madeira is well worth a visit.
