“Simply Divine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Chose this restaurant in the "old town" from the endless options in this area and I don't think I will want to try out others when I go back, it was simply divine! Excellent service and food, the ambiance is fantastic! Definitely worth the price, highly recommend!

“great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

That was a pleasure to eat in this restaurant! The service was really nice, the food was awsome! we ordered some fish and it was really nice and (what is really rare in Funchal) it was FLAVORED! i appreciate also the addidion of italian cuisine - this dishes are also delicious. The prices are a little bit too expensive, but the quality of food recompense it.

“Last night in Funchal, ended on a high!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

After only discovering the 'old town' towards the end of our trip, we decided that this place would be perfect for our final meal during our excellent holiday.
The restuarant boasts front seating on the picturesque cobbled street, an attraciive and cosy looking interior or spacious back garden with clay oven and grills on view. We opted for the latter. It was fairly busy when we got in, always a good sign, but were seated immediately in a nice spot.
The service was extremely freindly, the waiter who took our order was happy to explain some of the dishes available.
I chose the slow cooked goat stew whilst my fiancee had the mixed fish skewer with huge king prawns. Both were absolutely delicious and without fault. Being near the kitchen, we had a chance to see all other meals as they came out. All looked superb and we seemed to be surrounded by plenty of other happy diners.
With the amount of fine choices for food in the old town area, this is definately a place to check out.

“A Very Pleasant Surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

Wandered downtown on the final night of our holiday looking to casually drop in somewhere for a bite to eat. Friends who had eaten here a few days before had recommended Taberna Da Esquina so we strolled to the old town and were invited in to take a look around. He was rightly concerned that the empty restaurant inside would give the wrong impression so he escorted us to the courtyard at the rear which was packed with diners. To cut a long story short, it turned out to be one of the best meals of our holiday - good quality espada fish (not touristy stuff), a delicious seafood kebab, delightful chocolate mousse and a good choice of Portuguese wines. Couldn`t fault the service or the surroundings either. Well worth a try for couples and small parties - always good to find a new quality restaurant to add to our regular haunts in and around Funchal.

“Missed it first time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

In the old town area, you might even walk by as we did but did stop and have a drink at an outside table we were given small octopus as a nibble. We went back for a meal on the last evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. You have any number of options we chose a mix of fish of the day. If you havn`t tried it, SCABBARD fish can be an eye opener as they don't fillet or bone it very well. That being said the flesh was tasty. The staff were attentive and at pains to talk through your choice should you need it. It is a bit on the pricey side hence the disappointment with the scabbard fish but the garden at the rear creates a nice setting and overall I would eat there again.
