Stayed here at end of July but used a privately rented apartment.
We were able to use all the facilities and found the hotel very good.
Pool area and gardens lovely woth ftee loungers, covers and towels as well.
Didnt eat in cos we self catered but excellent restaurants close by and good location a little away from busy part of Funcal.
Would recommend and we will return

Really enjoyed our holiday here. To explain some background, this was not our original choice, but two weeks prior to departure, we were told our original hotel was overbooked and we were given three choices, by the agent.

On reflection this was a good choice, The reason there are not many reviews in English is that there are not many English families here. In the main, it appears to the Spanish and French families here.

Yes it is a little old and plenty of dark wood reflects the age, We had a suite, which gives the advantage of a separate sitting room and a kitchenette. So the room, or rooms, were very big.

Hotel is in a quiet location, five minutes to the beach but 10 minutes back (its uphill back!) plenty of opportunities for walking, shopping centre with a supermarket just around the corner. Walking to Funchal centre was a good 2 or 3 miles and in the heat I would suggest, ensuring you do it to coincide with beer o’clock in Funchal. Typically a 500ml beer is 3.50euro and 3.30 euro in the hotel. Shuttle bus runs several times a day to and from Funchal. We made use of the bus back to the hotel.

Nice outdoor pool, maybe when busier, there may not be enough sunbeds, but that is a minor issue. There is also an indoor pool, but I did not make use of that. Poolside bar, very good value and two of the staff in particular very helpful and chatty. Food was always hot, and maybe not a great choice, but what was available, was very good quality. Everyday, in addition to salad and soup, was a fish, and two meats served hot for the main choice, along with hot vegetables.

Apart from the walking, we used the cable car, which gave some great views of Funchal and also went dolphin spotting using madeira caterman. This was the highlight of the trip. Though I might need to work on my camerawork in future.

All in all a good relaxing holiday.

We booked a week half board at this hotel last minute and had a very enjoyable holiday. We were really impressed on arrival at the hotel, we had a suite on the 7th floor with a sea and garden view and the facilities were excellent. All in all we had a great holiday, our one main disappointment with this hotel was the standard and choice of food at both breakfast and dinner. I have stayed in a number of 3* and 4* hotels across Europe and can honestly say that this was the worst buffet food I have experienced. The breakfast choice was poor, limited continental options and the hot food was restricted to a maximum of 4 items each morning - and one of these was always baked apples! At dinner the salad buffet was quite good but the main course was limited to a maximum of 2 meat choices, one fish option, one potato type and one veg type. The desserts (mostly gateaus) were nice but on none of the 4 occasions we had evening meal was icecream available as a option and the fruit salad often contained fruit well past its best (e.g., rotten kiwi fruit which tainted the other fruits). We chose to eat out for 3 of the evenings given the unsatisfactory food at the hotel. The food service left quite a lot to be desired also, a number of cooks lingered near the hot food during the meal time but spent most of the time talking and laughing and things were replenished very slowly and only when a diner pointed out to staff that things had run out. The great facilities means that the Jardins D'Ajuda has the potential to be a very good hotel but unfortunately the poor food means I do not feel able to recommend it to anyone and feel this is a real shame.

Room Tip: Suites are lovely as you have kitchen facilites and plenty of space.

I'm a solo traveller and i visted Madeira for many years now and stayed in a few hotels , and i have got to say that is one is top of my list for a pleasent and comfortable stay.

The rooms are a bit dated but very clean and all facilities work, there was a kitchenette which was very handy for cups of tea or coffee first thing in the morning and a very pleasent out look over the pretty garden and pool area. There is also a indoor solarium so if the weather isn't brill you can always go there .
The hotel has a very nice restaurant which caters for all needs for breakfast and evening meals (there is plenty to choose from),
The bar area is comfortable and they have entertainment everynight a young lady singing and over the weekend they have a cabaret act .the hotel also has a courtesy bus to take you into Funchal which makes a nice day out .

All members of staff made me fill very welcome from the moment I got to the hotel, nothing was to much trouble.

There is a shopping centre and restaurants just around the corner which are open till late.
Would i stay there again yes i'm planning to go back in June.

We have visited Madeira on many occasions but this was the first time we had stayed at Jardins d'Ajuda.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly and efficient reception staff in a very spacious entrance area.

Our room was spacious, clean and gave us the addition of a sitting area and kitchen.

The breakfast catered for all tastes and was plentiful.

The facilities were excellent and although we are not ones for sitting around the pool all day, when we did choose to take a rest we found the sun loungers plentiful and the area very clean. The gardens are beautiful and I can well understand why the hotel is used as a venue for weddings. The indoor swimming pool, gym and other facilities again were very clean and although a little dated, were more than adequate.

There was entertainment every evening and the dance floor was filled most nights with people enjoying themselves.

All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful.

When we return to Madeira, will we return to this hotel - Certainly!
