We visited Funchal during a cruise to the Azores and Canaries and had pre-booked a rental car to get around the island.
We spent some few hours during the afternoon walking around this interesting city and the Cathedral was one of the sights we wanted to see.
Whilst the exterior may not be spectacular the inside certainly is with cedar ceilings, gold inlays and Flemish paintings around the walls.
It is actually located quite near the local market which is also worth a visit, especially the fish wholesale section.
