From the moment we walked in to the hotel foyer we knew we were going to have a good time. The staff were ALL very helpful. It was particularly helpful that the staff wore badges showing what languages they spoke.
The rooms were very bright, clean and comfortable, and the standard of daily cleaning was excellent.
Breakfast in the main restaurant was very good with a huge choice of food, even champagne and smoked salmon on offer!
We did not use the hotel for our evening meals as there is such a good choice of local restaurants within a few minutes walk, catering for all tastes and substantially cheaper than the hotel.
The outdoor pool is so large that it is never crowded. The inside pool is acceptable, if a little small.
The walk into Funchal is a little bit hilly but there are plenty of bars along the route to rest, take refreshment and absorb the local atmosphere.
We would recommend an organised excursion around the western half of the island, either with a coach company or by booking a taxi for the day. It is beautiful.
We will definitely be returning.

After reading the reviews here we decided to book this hotel for our vecations in may.
The Hotel is great. Its on nice location so you can have nice walks in front of it.
The rooms are OK, only thing is that the stuff didnt fill our mini bar, there was only one drink in it and this didnt changed the whole time of our stay.
The Hotel stuff was realy frendly and heplfull all the time.
Food was great, everybody can find something for eat. You have also 2 restaurants in it :)

Through our agent we had booked a seaview room. However, upon arrival it was clear that this actually meant that the hotel had a seaview. We questioned this and the hotel were very obliging and offered us a lovely corner room with a side sea view, which was perfectly acceptable.

The hotel is in a lovely position, out of Funchal, but with direct access on to the promenade and within a 20 minute stroll of the capital. The walk is undulating, but not too strenuous and with plenty of watering holes along the way.

Breakfast was buffet style and offered a wide range of both cooked and continental breakfasts. The swimming pool was uncrowded, with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. There are lots of harmless, small lizards running around on the rocky walls arounds the gardens, which provided added interest!

The hotel is within easy walking distance of a number of good restaurants, serving both local and international cuisine. The seafood was particularly good. Prices were comparable to those at home (bearing in mind that since then the Euro has reached virtual parity with the Pound, so prices may now seem rather more expensive).

The rooms were spacious and very clean, as you would expect from a five star hotel. Bathrooms were equally spacious and well equipped.

Like others said here it's a Grand hotel but with small issues to solve.
The rooms were large with very good conditions but lacked better TV set (old ones) and the mini-bar/water they provided had huge prices compared with others.
The breakfast was excellent with the possibility of having it by the pool.
The SPA was good but pool's water temperature was a bit cold and it would get a bit crowded on peak hours.
Internet service is simply a straight robbery. The prices they have are simply unexplainable. We have been in lower stars hotels with free wireless (even on rooms).
The views are very nice and, though a little far from city center it has a free bus shuttle 5 or 6 times a day.
